I emailed both Evolve and xHp re their TCU tunes—both said their tunes do not bypass / solve the counter issue—and my understanding that applied to all F90s, not just the ‘20 and later.

I can’t imagine there is not a way to code out that lockout. It seems ridiculous that if an owner wants to keep that feature, and understands and acknowledges the risk to the transmission and is willing to accept the full repair bill for a transmission failure due to bypassing it, that there is still no way to stop that lockout from occurring.

100. I have more than 50 Dragy times recorded each for one of my M5s and my M8. It could be less than a 100 but it's certainly more than 50.

I was told 100 by the regional BMW rep/tech from BMW USA.

So at the end of the day if you want to keep stock 0-60 after 100 launches you have to tune. I wish I had known when purchased that this was a limited feature, as I probably launch it 2-3 times a week minimum and by my math I may only have a month or two left of qs3.

I’ve read a couple places Audi caps at 200 and can be tuned around and that Porsche doesn’t limit. No actual inside info though.

No Limit on Porsche models with PDK. You can actually adjust the Launch RPM on the Turbo S from 4400 to 5200 rpm.

The draggy run he was commenting on was from his run in February 2021 of a 2.63 0-60 so I'm assuming he's already used up his 100 before that 2.63 run which sounds about right 0-60 for a Map2 JB4

Yea it's just one guy and who knows how honest he's being but 100 LCs is pretty easy to blow through for someone chasing times on his draggy so its it's not very hard to believe either.
I wasn't trying to discredit the LC limit rumor based on one guys post. I was more just sharing a data point. His car is a 2021 so who knows maybe he hasn't hit his limit just yet.

You guys can take this for what you will, but I contacted BMW NA Customer Service about this limit and asked the question. Is there a limit on the number of launches on the 2021 BMW M5 competition? They response was overlooked in my email until this morning when I was searching my email for something else. They responded back March 3, 2021 in the form of a letter from BMW Group. There is not limit on the number of launches. They letter does state launches do cause a very heavy load on the vehicle and also launch control should not be used during the break in period. Also stuff on operating temperature, steering etc.

So there it is in black in white from BMW Group.

You asked the wrong question. As I've said a number of times, the car still shows Launch Control and the flag in the gauge cluster and it still shifts for you, etc., so their answer is technically correct. The question is whether the transmission continues using the special shift mode—known as quick shift 3 I think—after some predetermined number of launches. The answer to that question is, "no, it doesn't".

Note there's another thread where someone found the limit documented in the vehicle's user manual—I think it was for an X3M.
