Apple CarPlay hiccup….help!

Apple CarPlay was a change to get used to. I hate change. But here we are. I fell in love with it, especially with the GPS and music playlists integration. Seems like my car has a brain and has woken up. Lots of settings changing back to stock, at random times, and not all together. Wtf?!? I REALLY needed maps tonight as we went out for our anniversary to a place we've never been and I was heated. Why won't my phone reconnect to the car for CarPlay? It only works (music only) when I plug in USB-C from center console.
