Black wheels or the Bi Colour Y-Spoke - MBB?
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I currently have a E63S which is coming to end of lease. I'm favouring going back to BMW and doing countless configs! I really like the MBB colour, but can't decide whether it's better with the full black alloys or the bi colour ones? The full black looks great but really aggressive, the roads I drive in the UK already have a load of annoying 'boy racers' and I'm wondering if the overly aggressive look will just encourage them to be more annoying! The Bi Colour look classy but something feels a bit 'dull' with them. Welcome any opinions. I'm also swithering colour wise between the Nardo Grey and MBB, decisions, decisions!!!! |

I'm biased of course, but my vote goes to full black!

Not the best Photo of mine, but it might help you. I also would have liked the black ones but didnt want the extra weight as the y-spokes are significantly lighter.

I personally find the forged y-spoke wheels more aggressive and better-looking than the all-black wheels.
Plus why not go with forged wheels any day of the week over non-forged wheels? |

Comp wheels are forged, much lighter, better design.
Just powder coat the comp wheels Subjective but the black wheels are not the best looking wheel

They're heavier, at 35 pounds in the front and 36 pounds in the rear for the black 706M wheels, vs. 28 pounds in the front and 30 pounds in the rear for the 789M wheels. 6-7 pounds per wheel doesn't sound like much, but this is unsprung weight.
I also think that the 789M wheels look pretty good on darker colors, including MBB. All that said, I went with the black 706M wheels because I think they look better than the 789M wheels, though I do like what some board members have done in powder coating the 789M wheels. All of of the LCI launch photos of the M5C that I saw featured an imola red M5C with the black 706M wheels, I'm guessing because these wheels pick up the black accents of the LCI well. Go with two tone as forged wheel and get it painted all black.

Another alternative, if you are willing to undertake a bit of hassle, is to sell the BMW forged wheels and replace them with an aftermarket black wheel like the Dinan or Titan wheels each of which are available in black and are actually several pounds lighter than the BMW forged wheels. If you get a good price for the BMW wheels, you might even come out ahead given the reasonably low price of these aftermarket wheels.

The Y spoke are forged and significantly lighter. They are better wheels.

Yes, go with the Y spoke wheels for better performance and they are much easier to keep clean.

Definitely leaning towards Bi Colour, just need to get comfortable that the Nardo isn't going to be a pain to wash and maintain, if it is, I'll go MBB I think.

35 lbs is incredibly heavy for a “performance” wheel. You have me thinking about lighter aftermarket 20s. Not sure I would go down to 19s and don’t want the stiffer ride of 21s.
