Both are nice looking to me, I'd still get an E63S over both in sedan or wagon form, but that's just my opinion. Between these two its more of a decision between a more classic and understated design or more aggressive and newer design, both have their pro's and con's. I still do think however the 8 looks best in coupe form, and the design gets lost in translation with the vert and GC, but like others have said the price leaves me very confused, and the M6GC will still always be the best looking, other than the hood-line that car had a perfect mix of elegance and aggression.

M8 wins for exterior, M5 on interior.

M8 doesn't compete with S63 in terms of overall package.

S63 coupe is definitely a different level, and is gorgeous! The weird thing is that the 8 is the size of the E coupe but is touted as a flagship vehicle so its like a tweener between The E and S.

For me, this is a breaking reveal! Does anybody has insights on the differences between 75 versus 76.

Google doesn't return a lot. Except that the Alpina B7 also uses the 76.

Alpina reveals: better cooling, stronger/faster solenoids that allow launch control without reduced torque. Both B5 as B7 have 800Nm output. I believe most measurements of the S63 where also around that number?

The M8 may be a nice car, but its design is polarizing, as evidenced by this and many other threads. The back looks like a wrinkled neck, side profile looks like a mustang and while the front looks OK, it does not have that effect that gets your heart racing like for example its predecessor, M6.
And newer design isn't necessarily better. Take a look at X5 and X6 or 7 series. Or compare 6 and 8.
Finally, the very fact that this conversation exists - whether a non-flagship is better than a flagship in BMW's lineup proves the point that M8 does not fulfill that role properly.

Yeah, BMW's marketing of this vehicle is a bit perplexing. We all know truly that it is a 6-series replacement and is based more off the 5-series, rather than something like the S-Coupe which is based solely on the S-Class, or even the AMG GT which is the flagship of their sports cars. This is perfectly fine, I just don't think marketing it as a flagship BMW makes much sense.

"Out of place"?? Most base model owners here seem to change their mirrors, diffuser, exhaust, etc. to mimic the Comp style and sound over time. Your opinion will likely change.

Great video! I've driven both. Like the looks of the M8, in person fantastic. Interior doesn't do it for me, pretty but they wasted a lot of space. Feels faster off the line than the M5 but also feels heavier/more boat like than the M5 which for me is a turn off. If I could only have 1 vehicle in my life and 1 only, absolutely hands down M5C from all manufacturers. But BMW turning everything into a slush box drone...meh. Manual, DCT or PDK for me as long as any of them still exist in 5 years when I'm in the market again.

M8 objectively superior. But comparing price tags it's an easy win for the M5. I also, dare I say it, think the M8 without the V12 has failed to live up to its name.

That said, I will buy one eventually.

Eh....I think a lot of people put OEM carbon fiber mirror caps and diffusers (meaning the center diffuser) on.....which I think are fine. I am just not thrilled with all the plain black parts on the Comp. Maybe BMW should have did carbon fiber on those parts instead of plain black for the Comps.....I think that would fit more.

As for exhaust, I do see a lot of people doing black tips....but I don't think it's because the Comps have them. The black tips just look better on some colors.

Having owned my F90 since August of 2018 I find myself looking at a vehicle to possibly replace the F90. I looked at the M8 GC and the price at over 160k equipped was a bit much. I agree with Chris Harris on the M8 (see attached video). Having transitioned from a 2015 F80 (M3) I do miss the looks of the rear fenders and wish my F90 had the same rear fenders. My F90 had a MSRP of 124K and I did a purchase and the 11% discount and the added BMWCCA discount of $1,000 helped in the decision making process.

They aren't. That's the thing. People on the M8 forum like M5's.

Not sure what's going on with the M8 hate.
Price? Who cares. It's overpriced like many other cars. Didn't know that this is a measure of desirability.
Practicality? Also, who cares. This is likely the third car or so. It's sufficient to have one practical car in the household.
Tech? A step up in some areas from the M5 and likely a match to the M5 LCI.
Interior? Not special enough? Just because of price? Or why does it have to be completely different than any other BMW? BMW steps up interior materials apparently, not the design.
Same with the X6M Comp. Thing looks like a carbon copy and people think it's awesome.

Exterior?
I really like the front. The rear could have been done better but it is what it is. We lowered the car a bit and put some spacers one and now the stance is much improved.
But in the end, looks are in the eye of the beholder. I really like the M5 but found the car too close visually to the 5 series.
But many have fixed that (lowering, CF lip, spoiler, diffuser, spacers or different wheels).
Personally still favor the look of our recent Magno black E63s.

Both are cool cars IMO. One is a mainstream sedan, the other a niche coupe, cab or GC.

All of the AMG's look like a normal car, too. All of the Porsche GTS and S models look like the base models, too. Even the Turbo isn't that different looking.

That is why people buy M5's......it's an executive sports sedan that really is a sleeper in a lot of ways. That's why I feel the Comp models just don't it for me on the M5. I just feel it almost crosses the line between classy sedan into M3/M4 territory with the black mirrors and rear, etc. I jut feel Comps fit the 2-door BMW's better. People don't think of "sporty" when they think of the M5 or X5M. Like I could see myself driving a M5 Comp in my 20's....but not in my 50's.

I do love the M8 coupes....they are indeed hot. However, if you want to compare M8 GC versus M5...I just think the M5 wins. The M8GC look great! I just feel the 8 is better in the coupe version and the M5 is BMW's bread and butter in a lot of ways.

Lies. Most don't and I certainly won't. If I wanted to go that route, I'd chosen a different vehicle entirely.
