I was more confused as to why they are testing a F80 CS when it's out of production?
I believe that swagon 's point is that the F80 M3cs elements were tested on a pre-LCI mule, meaning that the M5cs could still happen post LCI despite this particular prototype wearing pre-LCI guise.

Yeah, thankfully F85 pointed that out also. I've been a little slow today...

I went with 991.2 and have ZERO regrets. I see where they are going with the gold but Porsche just does it better imo. Never thought I'd have gold wheels, but #ilovegoooooooooooold

The 992 is already making headlines. The upper tier models (GTS, Turbo, GT3) are going to be a problem. You got some good choices nonetheless. Good luck

Indeed. M5 ClubSport. I don't get it. For those who even take their M5 to the track once complain how quickly it eats tires. Literally no one will use a 5-series anything as a track focused vehicle.

In my opinion it depends on the direction. I don't really see the need to take this car in a stripped down, track focused direction, but if they kept the luxury/comfort level the same while adding the better aero bits, and increasing power then I would be all in. I would say focus it more for the guy who wants the luxury rocket during the week but is going to make "canyon runs" on the weekend vs. go to the track.

The M3/M4 CS getting more stripped down and track focused definitely makes sense.

I'd be interested in the market research on this, but I would have to think that the M3/M4 buyer is buying that car specifically because they want the dual purpose car to take to the track. The M5 buyer likely has something else they prefer as their track car, but wants the luxury/supercar experience in something more practical for a daily.
Then it's basically comp upgrade rather than CS I suppose

In essence. I realize it isn't keeping in with the dna of the badge, but is anyone really planning on using their M5 as that focused of a track car? Aside from a small group of people on this board I would think the M5 CS would alienate more buyers than it would attract. Regardless of how well reviewed or received it is by a majority of the car world, I don't see a large number of people with the budget for the car who would be willing to spend the money if they take away a majority of the convenience features.

Totally agree that's why I just don't see the need for a CS, unless if they just up the power and adding a few CF bits to save 15lb... while at it add more steering feel...

I don't personally get it. Why buy an M5 CS? A CS basically has to be a dedicated track car and if you're dropping $150k why would you get an M5 with 4 doors and seat weight and higher COG over an M8 which is the same but better suited for the job?

Oh. Yeah. Leasers ans middle easterns are idiots

Why does a CS have to be a dedicated track car? I daily drive my M3 CS. Over 9,000 miles since December and have loved every mile!

As for the comment about folks from the Middle East, I'm guessing you're used to being called racist by now.

Anyone right of Bernie is racist or Russian spy these days. Yikes. anyway not interested in politics.

Glad you are having fun in the CS but why in the world would you spend the money on weight reduction and reduced comfort in a daily car when literally every version of the 2 series would be better at the job. Without a track you'll literally never use any of the extra even fits you're paying for?

1) I got a smokin deal on the CS, so the "extra cost" doesn't apply.
2) I find the car extremely comfortable. I don't miss the center armrest, but I do miss the Comfort Access.
3) I do have local tracks and have already been out in the track with the CS. It's phenomenal right out of the box. Just put Cup 2s on and can't wait to see how it handles now.

Well you could ask the question of the M5 in general. Why get the M5 when the M2 might be better suited for the track, the regular 5’s are enough power, and no one “needs” a 600hp car for daily driving?

People get these cars for many reasons as these forums show. Exclusivity, drag racing, M pedigree etc. Bmw obviously believes there is demand for the model and what it offers.

It's natural to strive for the best of a range.

I went M3 to M5 and very rarely go over 4,000 rpm

Typical comparison is M5, E63, RS6 - each the top of their respective range.
