Break in Service - Dealers only doing emergency due to Covid19

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hi everyone,

Hope you are all doing well and are healthy right now.

Picked up my M5C over a month ago. Approaching break in and dealer is telling me they cannot do it. Only doing Emergency mechanical etc due to Covid19.

Couple questions. Besides oil, what else is done? Considering have my shop do the service because this could go on a while. Would they be able to reset codes etc? Any info is appreciated!

My break in service was performed on February 29th. Less than 600 miles later, I was told to come in for an oil change after the car gave a notification. So I'm assuming they don't actually change the oil during the break in service. Crazy. 🙄

they change all fluids like diff , transmission
make sure you get something in writing from them and BMW because M cars that don't have evidence of 1200 mile service within 2000 miles , can't be CPO'd , so that might affect you trade in value at time of sale

That service is a necessary service Just like the first service they do if you BUY A FRIGGEN CAR FROM THEM> so that is BULLSHIT. They should do that service now.

Transmission fluid is not touched. Engine oil, front differential, and rear differential fluids are changed. Have your service advisor check and double check with the parts department that they a) know what fluids are needed (front and rear differential are different) and b) actually have them in stock (they probably don't). You should demand that it is done before 2000 miles.

My dealer told me I could come in at 1000 miles if I wanted to. I guess it all depends on how strict the local stay at home rules are...

Depending on where you are located you can try calling BMWNA and ask if they will reimburse you if you use a different shop for the service. I'm sure they will do it. Just to keep safe, get the email address of who ever gives the okay and email back and forth so you can have it documented for insurance. Good Luck!

yeah, not sure why that dealer isn't willing to do the 1200. If that doesn't get done within a certain time, they can an will void warranty if the car has an issue down the road.

My dad's dealer picked up his car from his house (left a loaner) and did the snow tire change over. Certainly not a service that is "urgent" muck like the break in service, but they did it.....they are doing all their normal services.

Your dealership is just being obnoxious. Some manager trying to play Dr. Fauci and decide who's car's service is deemed worthy of their attention.

Find another dealer.

Just dropped my car off to get summer tires back on and have an issue with my A/C-heat touchscreen display fixed. They had no issues. I agree, your dealer sucks.

Our guys wore disposable gloves in the car. I sat in the dealer sitting area which had been reconfigured for social distancing. I wore a mask. I let the car air out when I got it back and didn’t touch my face until I got home and washed my hands.

Not a big deal and auto work can be done safely.

Why do I hesitate to let someone drive my car to and from a dealer? I think they’d drive it like they stole it, and that’s my job.
