ASD / Exhaust baffle button observations

F90 arrived late today

Played with the ASD on/off console button.

Observations :

1. Button on (green light on) and Engine button in normal mode, the only thing that happened was the fake sound through the speakers turned on. The exhaust baffles remained closed. Confirmed with a flashlight with the engine idle and revving.

2. Button off (green light off) and Engine button in Sport Plus, the exhaust baffles stayed closed at idle and stayed closed revving.

3.Button on (green light on) and Engine button in Sport Plus, the exhaust baffles opened at idle and revving. Could actually hear the baffle "clink" open. Exhaust outside sounded MUCH better !

So it takes both on to get the baffles open at idle. My X5M overrides the "off" function at wide open throttle and opens the valves regardless of the setting...not sure on the M5.

Attached is the fuse box schematic. One of the "media" fuses should kill the ASD fake speaker sound...just not sure yet which one.

The active sound can also be turned off through coding.

If memory serves, there is an electronic module dedicated to ASD. Just unplugging it in the F10 did the trick. A fuse pull would be easier assuming that specific fuse is dedicated only to to ASD.

Not sure OP's analysis is completely accurate since it was performed (I assume) sitting still. I imagine the control algorithms are more complex than that, including inputs such as engine load, gear, WOT switch, engine temp, MDM mode, CAT temp, etc, in addition to ASD switch, engine mode and throttle position.

Congratulations to OP!

Looking for the HK amp today. Pulled the ASD plug in my X5M and it worked great. Single plug on the amp. Hopefully it is in the trunk behind a panel.

Yep...I had the same module in my F80. It was a little difficult to get to in left rear of the trunk, but unplugging that did the trick for me. Coding or a dedicated fuse pull would be easier I am sure.

Why are you wanting to disable it? I like the fake sound in my M4, the real outside exhaust sounds like a damn lawn mower.

Just a personal preference. Some like it , some do not. I disabled it on my X5M and changed the exhaust to get the real sound that I wanted. Will do the same here. It’s much easier to get that throaty sound I like with a V8 vs a 6.

I don’t know! I sent my guy down to tint the windows, IND reflector covers and the resonator. I’ll have it back in an hour for a drive. He is sending me pics as they finish and just thought you guys would enjoy the process.

They should have used a mandrel bender.

Looks like the small aluminum box with fins is ASD looking at my X5M pics. Will try disconnecting it today and see what happens.

Quickburn7 - Did you really go to a muffler shop with a $130K car and do a crimp-type bend on the exhaust?! Car may be louder but you certainly impeded exhaust flow.

Just my opinion, not the right move.

Unplugged that small amp in the pic above. Worked like a charm. No more fake news. Baffles open = exhaust sound only. Baffles closed = quiet.
