I'm letting Mo at DME handle everything. I'm not messing with any of the settings. In fact, I had turned the Jb4 off completely and he decided to turn it on and customize the Map 3 to work alongside the DMe tune. I'm kinda letting him do his thing and just reporting back on my experience with how the car feels.

I will say other than the 0-60 / launch control issues I am experience, the car feels smoking fast (just from a butt dyno).. and gets a little faster each day.

He says the the crappy 0-60 times are due to his purposefully low PID settings i dunno 🤷*♂️

I'd go with just the DME tune and get better gas for a week and see what happens.
Map 0 is obvious as it's no extra boost and the only things that have any impact are pretty much the meth settings and max boost.

With map6 (Additive) you can add boost on top of your current tune. So you get the advantage of the things a tune can give you but be able to add a little boost to it when you want. It's like a way of having multiple maps with instant switching for a Tune.

You can also run map3 (Absolute) is set to 25psi. So, if your tune is giving you say 19-22 then map3 kicks in and brings it to 25. I didn't realize you could do this with an absolute map but you can.

It's actually a really good tool to be able to add boost to your current tune and take it away without needing to flash anything.

But, yea he's adding in a lot of variables. I would get one figured out before I added the other. He's in good hands with Mo though.

For shits and giggles I did turn off map 3 and just tested map 0 (DME a Tune only) but that 0-60 is still garbage .. I ran 3.79 and 3.68

I dunno I give up

Simplify.

Remove JB4.

Add pump 93.

Give it a day of driving to adapt.

Dragy test. Report to Mo. Tweak tune. Rinse and repeat.

For your goals of pump only and no time to fiddle. That should work well.

Dont give up man! But agree with this as a near term approach. Can always reinstall the jb4 once you rule that out as a possible issue (install or other). Iterative approach will get you to where you want to be.

For now, I'm taking Mos advice and just letting the car continue to adapt and learn. He says by end of week car will be feeling much stronger (so weird to me because as a former Audi owner it was very simply. APR Tune = more power that day). I guess these BMW computers systems are more advanced.

In any event, for those who are interested in following the progress, results, and times (as I intend to log all of this) here is what is currently being tested and the current setup

Mods:
1. DME Stage 1 ECU Tune +
2. JB4 Customized Map 3 (with DME modified universal settings) (see attachment / image).

Fuel:
93 Octane Pump (typically Shell, Sunoco, or Chevron)

Car:
2019 BMW M5 Comp
Carbon Roof
Steel Brakes
Miles ~ 4000

Initial runs (best times):

60-130 (24-36 hours after install)
7.90 sec DA 1056

Quarter mile
11.06 @ 127.84 DA 928
1.78 60ft

0-60
3.36sec - DA 928

Let's see what happens 🤞🏻

So...

I was able to capture on video my car automatically turning off on cold start ...

Watch "Untitled" on Vimeo:

Let me know if the above works

there is another forum post about these cars experiencing this weird issue on start up and possibly relating it to a bad fuel pump .. I'm wondering if I may have a similar issue and if it is the source of my low timing and slower than average times (across the board)

In any event, I flashed back to stock and put Jb4 to map 0.. here is a quarter mile run for reference (with the drivers window fully down because I couldn't see without my glasses.) it wasn't a great run but comparatively to DME you can get a sense of the difference (not much)

This run (stock 93 octane)
Drivers window completely down

DA1285

0-60 3.43 seconds (this still makes me cry.. but it was a very bad launch admittedly)

1/4 mile 11.27 @ 125.05 .. 1.82 60 ft (horrible 60ft probably due to bad 0-60)

60-130 8.88 seconds (car felt very slow at high speed but this could have been due to the window being down and getting some drag)

Again stock car seems quite slow

I'm hoping it's an issue related to the fuel pump or something else that's causing those false starts.. that's the second one I've had .. in two days

Isnt there a TSB on this I know I had found one before where is cold start RPM is too high the car shuts off, or when placed in gear. Needs a software update. - I cant seem to find it now.

Did you use LC on that? You are losing most of your time in the first 10 feet.

High DA... haha that's the normal day for me. Yea, though it will help if you can get a better DA for sure though!

My car stock in 2500 DA had a 3.08 run that I have here on my log. I think your car is non comp? Either way, I think you will start seeing some better numbers now that they found your issue. And you were going uphill a bit

It's a comp.

I completely agree on the early part of the launch . It was slow .. it wasn't a good one

I did use LC

My point it's tremendously better than my times before with a stage 1 tune

Yea, glad to hear there was an issue with the fuel pump. Now plug that JB4 back in and test out map1 and have Terry look at logs. Just do a pull or two in 4th/5th. If he gives you the go then you can try moving up to map2.
