My E550 I coupe 2010 was the last model that had the Center Console Shifter but 2014 model even in coupes now have Behind Steering wheel shifters!!
Worse than Audi S6 very bulky uninspiring shifter..

Though I believe MB E550 has probably the best engine 4.7 with 2 turbos
While S6 has the best Transmission DCT

The only reason why press are comparing S6 with M5 is that their both 4dr saloons. To take that to an extreme, we may as well compare M5 with 528i.

RS6/7 vs M5, fair enough, although most press are comparing RS7 to M6GC and RS6 to E63 Estate or CLS 63 AMG Shooting Brake.

S6 vs 550xi vs E550 4matic; all good. I would take all the points you made in the following thread and apply them here (otherwise it's not particularly fair on Audi ): -

The only reason for American car media to compare S6 with M5 is because they have a job to do to make living and since the RS6 isn't happening in NA, they need to be creative or BS whichever people prefer.

As for media in the regions where both RS6 and M5 are available, who ever makes the comparison hates his/her job and is desperately looking to be removed from their current position.

Audi makes nice cars and the Quattro is exceptionally great to have especially in areas with extreme weather condition, there s no doubt about that.

But still that Audi S6 is a beautiful car for its money!!
I believe it has no competition 550xi is below it and M5 is above it!!
Though 550xi with exhaust and lowering springs shoukd be better in my opinion
