So I removed the DDE last night, what a PITA lol.

How many damn clips and retainers bmw puts on these things! just to get the cover off the dde housing there are 3 metal clips and 3 more plastic clips... with one being behind the housing, I had to use an inspection mirror and a pick tool to get at that one. Good thing I have a fully stocked mechanics tool box haha. Its in the mail to get flashed now... hopefully it'll be worth it.

I agree with your assessment. I have not done it yet, but can fully imagine, having removed/replaced some other things. I always worry about dropping a little clip down in the bowels of the engine compartment, breaking something, or not being able to get it back together. But I am a bit of a klutz.
