I hadn’t skimmed thru that in awhile, thanks for sharing the link! According to page 128 we have a standard non-AGM battery. Case closed.

Yes, it's lithium-ion. That's a bit of a given reading pages 127-128. The method for charging is different between an AGM and standard battery.

Was the battery charger designed to charge Li-ion batteries? Li-ion batteries have a higher voltage per cell than a wet cell lead acid battery, have tighter voltage tolerances and the absence of a float or trickle charge at full charge as it only takes what it can absorb. While lead acid has some flexibility in terms of voltage cut off, Li-ion are very strict on the correct setting because they cannot accept overcharge.

When I picked up my M5 I was asked if I had a Li-ion battery charger. I told them I didn’t think so, just a few Battery Tenders and an old Snap-On battery charger. They gave me a BMW Li-ion charger that goes through eight charging phases that I have used now for close to three months and never had it throw any codes.

On a side note: I am sorry to see you leave. I always enjoyed your posts and especially your snow driving thread with video.

Yeah, I stoped using trickle charger and never saw the code again. Lol
The guy said don't look at the codes it will drive you nuts, if it shows on I drive then I should be concerning.
I got a list one time that must have 10 codes and he said is nothing but BS lol
