Decat downpipe and OEM rear sound
I'm considering getting a catless downpipe, and running it with the rest of the exhaust OEM. I really don't want a very loud car, but a little extra noise I can handle. I haven't been able to find a good driveby video on youtube - all the videos of this setup are idling / free revving which make it sound quite loud.
Does anyone have a view / videos on how much louder / better / worse sounding the car will be with a catless downpipe? Where I live (Australia) not many people even own these cars, let alone modify them, so no chance of hearing on in real life. |

Stock exhaust + catless downpipes sounds amazing
Just make sure you get DP that fit 100% or else you will get a droning sound

I concur. Im running a VRSF decat and OEM exhaust...
In ECO the exhaust sounds much deeper with no pops and bangs (valve shut), Comfort = exhaust doesn't sound as deep and moderate pops and bangs Sport = Wonderfully ASBO but still sounds refined and quiet in the cabin. It wasn't until I had a friend rev it for me whilst I stood at the back to appreciate what a difference it made - decat and OEM ftw. |

Thanks for the replies. That video hasn't really sold me, it sounds a bit too much like a truck and not all that refined. I guess they are cheap, so if I don't like it I can always remove easily.

I am planning on putting my catless downpipe on this weekend. I am keeping the stock exhaust. I will try to take some good quality audio for you.

IMHO I thought catless (ER) and stock was too quiet. Granted, you hear the turbo better and the cracks and pops from overrun are really pronounced. However, in around town cruising and at idle the car sounds like a stock F30 335i...to me.
I was going to go muffler delete but feared drone. Now experimenting with various incremental deletions. Just did the rear muffler gut mod. More sound when cruising and no drone. Cracks and pops are very pronounced. Still quiet at idle. |

Anyone has some videos of stock exhaust setup in combination with Catless downpipe?
I now have catless - no midsilencer and bastuck. Lovely sound, loud pops and bangs but drone drives me insane. Maybe I try same setup with stock mufflee. |

I can tell you that I really like it (catless downpipe plus OEM cat back). I'll work on video tomorrow.

I would give it a try tbh , I'm no mechanic but have done coilovers ,springs , tunes ,exhaust work ect and its simple , removing what's in the way and swapping the DPs I would pay someone $100-150 imo that would be a fair price but good luck finding someone who will do it for that Obviously this goes unsaid but wait till that MOFO is cold hahah trust me you'll burn your hand it's hot , If you need any help or questions I get to my PMs pretty quick I can even swap numbers with you and while your doing it I can help you along |
