It seems like newer BMWs, M or not, are plagued by a larger than normal gap between the tire and fender. I saw a 328i E90 the other day that was obviously bone stock and there wasn't much of a gap at all.

Seems weird that an M car would need a drop - just curious what people thought...

PS - my 981 CS has 20' wheels AND needs a drop. No idea why this is the case.
Its actually not bad, I would maybe just to some spacers and call it a day. I wouldnt lower it.

Don't lower it. I lowered my 335i with H&R sport springs and now it totally does not absorb any bumps. It shocks my spine. Id only consider coil overs.

Ya me either. I thought it looked just fine.

I would only lower without coilovers if you're prepared to replace your shocks/struts with Bilstein Sport or a similar inverted monotube which have integrated bump stops and reduced travel designed to be used with shorter springs. If not, you have a recipe for exactly what you describe.

I'm still going with the M Performance suspension street setup. I can't live with a car at stock height, and I also don't want the car to drag along the floor. Those days are over.

Even with larger wheels, the gap looks awful. And if I can be covered by a warranty as well, then it's a no brainer.

The wheel gap definitely falls into the "personal preference" category - I was just curious as to what people had thought.

Sometimes, bigger wheels can make the gap look even more noticeable. I am considering the X73 suspension (retrofit) and it will drop the car a little less than 1/2 an inch. That should be plenty.

Personally, I found the gap to be tolerable.

You can be sure the Merlins at ///M have a good reason for the current ride height, which likely strikes that perfect balance between road and track applications.

But the M Performance suspension sounds interesting and since it's OEM you can be confident it won't look anywhere near slammed as some buffoon is sure to do to one sooner than later.

Going one size up to 255/275 should fill out the wheel well nicely.

You buffoon!

I know this should probably go in the wheels/tires forums but since no one is ever there (), any estimate on spacers for the stock 19's? Perhaps 12mm / 15mm?

I think 15mm in the rear will be way too much from what i saw. Maybe around 10mm. But that's just guessing at this point.

The M2 looks far better than the M3/4 in terms of ride height. Those cars sit stupidly high, and have a really really weird rake to them too. With the M2, I'd be completely OK with leaving the ride height as is (from the pics anyway).

You're right, I ran 15mm on my 335i's 162's with sport springs and it was a nice look. I might just do 10mm front and 12mm rear and call it a day, then.

i ran 20f/18r with my stock wheels b4, lowered on springs, with no rubbing. don't think that will fly with M2 but we won't know til they start coming in. i would guess 10-15mm may work

The interior isn't the classiest or coolest and I can attest, my wife drives a 228 M sport. But again the FUN and Price factor on these cars is the key and BMW giving us something we have been asking for since the E46 days.
To the bystanders I'd say the M2 is a sport car first with some luxuries, not a luxury car that's sporty. If you want both go check out the F8x.

The sad thing is, people are going to continue talking about this.......

Also Tag, The M2 is technically an F8x, too.

Yes the ride height is ideal for me as well, saw the car a few times, mine will not be lowered.

This is true, to bystanders - they won't be able to look inside....not while I'll drift around them...

I hate when cars are lowered so much that the wheel gap no longer looks remotely equivalent all the way around the entire circumference. It just looks wrong to me.

+1 it is counter to the design aesthetics ( i.e. doesn't look like it was made for that )

This !!!

When too low there`s no symmetry on wheel and wheel arch. To low it looks the car can`t stand on its feet

I does look wrong, it is plain wrong !
