if performance is the same or better why wouldn't you want a more compliant ride?

BMW is sometimes harsh for the sake of harsh which is dumb. Porsche is a great example of a more compliant suspension that perfomrs better than a harsh bmw setup.

Those headlights were a mistake.
Everything else is ok without being striking.

Yeah that's quite possible too. Won't be the first time BMW made a mistake in its PR materials.

Love it. What a car! The G80/82 shoppers going to have to get their checkbooks out and step up to the 5er if they want a good looking car. Lol. Still hoping the M cars get a different grill tho.

Or they could save a little and get an M2C...

I’ve been following the launch closely as I’m up in the air on what could be my F80s replacement in a year or so. Sure the power is cool, but I think this is the first LCI car by BMW that looks...worse.

It seems that BMW is moving away from the design language that made them, them. Curious to know what those on this board think.
Side note: anyone think BMW went to VAG for the headlights?

Don't worry folks...Those terrible Audi esque non halo round angel eyes and even more terrible polygon gauges and backwards tach mean one thing: ... the 2022 conceptM5 heritage jahre anniversary addition with a 10k price hike featuring "iconic" round gauges and lights !

We have them on the M8, not sure why they wouldn't do them on the M5 in the US...
Different system, different functionality, and no way to make it comply with FMVSS108.

BMW's angel eyes are iconic and the pre-LCI still held onto them to some degree. These new headlights could be from any brand.

Grill is too small, given BMW's trend direction.

Lights are VW as mentioned.

Lower fascia is AMG, as is the gill/side vent.

Not a clue what you just siad

Can you elaborate how the 2020 M8 laser is completely different in functionality from a 2021 M5?

FMVSS108 is a US transportation set of rules that apparently the M8 was somehow able to comply with, but not the new M5?

its the US govt, so who knows!

Would be nice to see an option for a flat bottomed steering wheel in BMW's line up that can be easily optioned. Feel like most people would gladly spend the extra $ if it were part of a package or something.

Lot of people optioning the exec package on G20's just to get the DRL lights

US market M8, the Laser SHB (Supplementary High Beam) is number 6 in the graphic and is incorporated together with the LED High Beam, and does not add to the total number of light emitting devices. By definition under FMVSS 108, these combination headlamps do not exceed the permissible maximum of 2 forward light emitting devices per side.

On the G30/F90 LCI, it's an independent multi-function dynamic lighting module in addition to the two LED projectors, making a total of 3 forward light emitting devices per side and thus, non-compliant. Other non-conformities exist, but that's the simplest one.
