Squeaky brakes?

Hey all. When I took delivery, there must have been a rock or something in the rotor/brake.

It wore a small line in the rotor (well more a circle I guess).

I was told it wouldn’t affect performance, I kinda brushed it off since it was so hard to prove when it got in there (for the record it was the first weekend I had it).

They took the caliper apart, didn’t find anything. But my brakes seem super squeaky. It’s colder here 30-40 degrees right now. But, I suspect the squeak is from the same wheel, none of the others appear to be making noice. This is under normal - light braking.

I don’t have carbon ceramic. Just looking for your experience.

it has nothing to do with the small line in the rotor that you have , these cars brakes ARE super squeaky , there are some solution mention in one thread if you can't live with it , for me i started to ignore it and now i don't hear it anymore

The noise is horrible. I live in NYC and coming to a stop, you'd think I'm driving a yellow cab. Once these pads wear out then I will switch to the Porterfield R4S pads. Had them on my C63. No noise, low dust but not as good as OEM in terms of stopping power. Initial bite seemed to be weak for me anyway.

Many threads on this and contact for replacements. It's a disgrace that they squeak, pisses me off

Fellas - but have any of you guys had squeaky noises start super early on? Only got 1,800 miles on my car and it's already like nails on chalkboard man! My previous M didn't start acting up until 30K or so, so I've been a bit surprised with this. Thx for any insights!

Same here... it started from early on after delivery. I tried what forum members said... hard barking at multiple incremental speeds. Nothing changed and it's the only thing embarrassing about the whole car.

2,000 miles on my '19 and no squeaks at all. If it's anything like my Porsche experience, the problem is caused by too much light braking to stops and a later, firmer stop will remove the glazing and make all quiet again. That always worked on my Porsches and once I stopped dragging the brakes lightly into stops, it never happened again. I brake the M5 late and firm and I have zero squeaks so far.

This is accurate for me as well w/ the brake dragging and I have 12k on mine. My squeal has recently changed pitch, became much deeper, maybe weather related. What year was your Porsche? I had a new '06 Cayenne S, new '09 911S and recall no squealing.

I am considering 2021 M5 Competition. I know there are a lot of discussion on brake squeal, but I cannot really tell my chances of having the issue of brake squeal. It would be a deal breaker for me, after all some people say it sounds like a school bus every time they stop. For those with this issue did it start soon after purchasing the car? Has it gone away? Some say CCB squeal and others say they do not.
Not very clear. Any help from owners would be appreciated.

If you cannot live with brake squeal, do not buy this car. I had it on my F10 and it annoyed me a bit, but I fully expected it on my F90 and so it doesn't bother me. I do think, like someone mentioned earlier, it's partly due to driving styles. The easier you are on the brakes, the more they will squeal.

I would opt for CCB if I had to do it over again for two reasons. One, the squeal might be better and two, less brake dust. The brake dust probably bothers me more than the squeal now.

Get the aftermarket pads and brake noise is gone. I do not know why so many members complain about this when there is a remedy for the issue. Here's the post about how to get rid of the brake noise: https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1617012

I just had my 2020 M5 Comp serviced last week for the same issue. They basically told me tuff Sh-t and handed me a service bulletin from BMW. The bulletin said M5 brakes squeal when you feather them in high traffic situations. There is no fix and no risk of failure. Mechanic suggested brake a little later and harder. Problem went away. This car is meant to be beat on and not babied like I do in city driving. I live in NY as well so I get the problem.

I live in NJ so we also get lots of traffic from time to time. I have an E63s and it also makes so much noise when I break. I don't get bothered by it as much, but that's why when I ordered my M5 Comp just a few weeks ago, I got the CCBs since if they're going to make noise regardless, I might as well get breaks that will last the whole service cycle of my car.

It's sad as a whole that these performance cars have this issue, but sadly there's not much we can do about it other than going aftermarket or just sucking it up :/

What about anti-squeal brake pad paste applied to the back of the pads or someone indicated spraying the brakes with wheel cleaner after each car wash resolved the issue and of course after market pads. Seems like a great car with a fatal flaw.

Because how is it a "remedy" to go out and get new brakes on a new $125k car?

My oem pads never squeaked once in the 1200 miles I had them on. Swapped to Ceramics to lessen the dust and not an ounce of squeak from them either.

I have had the porterfields for 6 mos now and the dealer installed them. It helped reduce significantly for a while and now the squeal is back now and I personally cant stand it. I’m about to start looking to trade for something else even though it only has 7k miles on it and I absolutely love the car. Can’t deal with this anymore.

If you brake firmly, rather than dragging them into stops, you will have no brake squeal. It's not rocket science and it's not unique to BMW. Brake later and more firmly and you will transfer material from pad to rotor and get no squeal. Drag your brakes around slowly and you will glaze them and get squeal.

Take your squealing car to an empty road, do a handful of repeated hard braking from 60-15mph (and release before stopping), then just drive as usual, but make a habit of braking moderately later and more firmly than you have in the past. My bet is your squeal will be gone.
