M performance parts back order
So this thread serves no other purpose than to vent and inform about my cars delay in delivery. I first encountered a minor hiccup in delivery because of the stop sale, but now I’m at week 2 of sitting sit the Charlestown port due to some unknown m performance part being on back order from Germany. I had my salesman reach out to Bmwna to try and find out what and a more solid eta on when it will arrive.
The m performance parts I chose were: Front splitter Rear spoiler pro Side blades Rear diffuser Exhaust I think my frustration primarily lies with Bmw not informing of a potential back order or delay when choosing these parts. Also, as my car is a 21 if this car sits any longer the 22 models are already going to be out..kind of frustrating in that sense. First word problems. |

Adding VPC installed accessories will incur labor costs vs port installed

There’s no install cost for port installed accessories? My car in still in transit but my SA said all of my selected parts were available. If this is the case, I’ll need to make sure there’s no labor costs added to price of the accessories.

Any accessories you purchase before delivery and are installed at port are the price you see on the website or order sheet. If you take delivery and then decide you want to change to the CF diffuser, you pay the price on the order sheet to buy the part, and then either you, or the dealer install it. With labor costs additional. Interestingly, I ordered the MPE with my car, which is installed at port. So my question is, does the factory ship cars with the basic comp exhaust, and tear it out and install the MPE? What happens to the old exhaust? Throw it out, send it back to Germany? Ship without an exhaust to port?? Same with CF bits. Do they rip out the old diffuser or trunk spoiler? Seems like a lot of work and potential damage incurred doing this, or do the ship without the standard parts?? I have so many questions.

I asked the same question before and was chastised for being cheap, asking what happened to the components they removed. Maybe you'll get an actual answer rather than one attacking your curiosity.

If they even ship original components at all.

From what I’ve been told that the car is shipped with the original parts on it including the M sport exhaust, but I have no clue what they do with those parts when the install the M performance parts!

I ran into a very MINOR version of this at the time my car arrived in Georgia. The carbon mirrors and carbon side blades were not in stock. I believe it was my 846th time of asking for an update I was told those pieces weren't available. My dealer made the executive decision of loading the car on a carrier and shipped down to South Florida. He also ate the overnight shipment costs to the service center, along with install "labor" charges to have them installed 48 hours post delivery. Sounds like mine may have been just an issue with inventory at the port, not a back order. The model year frustration though is something I'd speak up on though depending on how long your car is sitting there. The 2 weeks of being in the sun and not moving at all due to carbon parts would have me jumping a fence and stealing my own car outta there

Basically, if you want to keep the OEM parts then you need to do the install after you take delivery. FYI, you don't get any pricing credit/reduction for not getting to keep the parts.

Who actually does the port install stuff? Are they contractors or actual BMW employees? Or am I thinking too small... is there a broader term applied to things that are altered in-port? Like not necessarily even cars but anything and everything else... such that there are companies that's all they do?

They are all thrown in the trash. They do not send them back to the factory. Wheels have holes drilled in them so they cant be resold by employees at the VPC.
