Battery preservation during COVID shutdown

With the various stay at home orders in place, the M5C sits parked in my garage. I think I've driven it once within the last two weeks. With the availability of food/supply delivery services and long hours working from home because of the ongoing crisis, there hasn't been a reason to drive. In light of same, do I need to worry about the battery going dead?

Hope everyone is doing well.

Good question. The first thing that comes to mind is a Syntaxcompatible (Lithium Ion) battery Trickle Charger.

Yeah it's in the boot - just pry the boot mat up, it's a big old battery.

I've been going out once a week for a drive just to get out of the house. No interactions with others so being safe. Also NO one on the roads including most cops! Get out there and stretch her legs!

I've gone a month without running my F90 before and it fired up just fine. I had a recent accident to my arm that prevented me from being able to drive the car since March 9th and turned it over/drove it for the first time yesterday, April 4th. You will be fine. If you are truly worried about it, jump in the car and drive it for a bit. To remain compliant with social distancing, just don't stop anywhere.

If you want to trickle charge the battery, contrary to what others have said you don't need to access the battery directly through the trunk/boot. There are terminals in the engine compartment, screen shot below from the online owners manual as proof. I do this for my wife's Z4 since it's mostly dormant in the winter.

Yup. Just put it on a Lithium compatible battery tender. Probably not absolutely necessary, but will extend the life of the battery, which is expensive. And huge. Check it out sometime, under the trunk liner.
I'm a sacrificial.. er, I mean, essential employee so no time off for me.

I charge mine up every two/three weeks, only takes a few hours. These are not like the GTR's.

The current BMW branded charger (by CTEK) has a regular/AGM and LiPO setting on it. As far as I know, CTEK doesn't make an equivalent version for its own use. Take care of the M5 battery as its really expensive to replace.

Battery? I drive every day, elective surgeries may be down but emergencies and trauma go on.....and if the shutdown last long enough to cause a battery problem, hell the battery will be the last thing I'll worry about. How about the loss in net worth? My retirement curve has been flattened. I think most here will not be getting a dime of money from the government to 'cover your losses' but will be paying higher taxes for the rest of your life to cover the bailouts. And as I have told other before, having a job and a paycheck in the 'down times' does not do you much good if Walmart is out of toilet paper and food. The whole thing makes me sad, but when I read about 'my battery' and just chuckle.

Fair points, but this is a car enthusiast forum hence why I posed the question (and a fair one for those of us stuck at home with the "good fortune" of being able to work remotely).

Don't even get me started about finances. It'll be ugly, but we will get through this (hopefully). What concerns me more is what follows in the years ahead. Mounting government/corporate debt at record levels, will surely lead to significant pain for us tax payers. Deloitte recently put out a report and the scenarios don't look promising. BAC put out a similar private-client report suggesting a portfolio of 25/25/25/25 (stocks/bonds/gold/cash). Who knows what's right, do your homework and plan accordingly to best insulate yourselves.

Best of luck to everyone. Stay safe and thanks again for all the responses.

Not driven mine for 3wks now. Charge the battery with a Noco genius that can do 12v li-ion. Finally had time this week to wash, polish, seal it. Been 17 years since I had time and weather combo to that to a car!
