I like it, but the allure of the V12 is what attracts me to the car. Add in the 4WD which I'd need to realistically make this a 4 season car for me. The N.A. version is the only one for me. I'm going for the test drive Saturday.

Ok so here's my impressions versus the M5:
Look: interior is way better, worlds apart. Far more special and better quality. Exterior I prefer but M8 is better looking than Lusso. It's definitely more attractive in person. Comfort: beats the M5. Ride quality is better. Had all the amenities of the M5 with heated/AC seats, Apple car play. Etc. Performance: not as quick as the M5. The Lusso needs revs. Feels slow below 5k RPM. Above 5k is pulls very hard. Similar pull to M5. Where the M5 loves 3000-6500 RPM the Lusso loves 5000-8000 RPM. Just takes a different style. Car is very planted. Transmission is excellent and it's nice to pull bit paddles on a daily. Steering feel is better than M5 but M5 has no feel. Brakes are OK but at least they didn't squeak! Sound: Lusso is quiet below 5k RPM but sounds very good, albeit a bit muted above that. M5 sounds ok but I'm not a big fan of the loud burbles in sport plus mode. Lusso wins here. Overall: 8.9/10. Great daily. I'll see if I can get the deal done this week. Absolutely so special to be inside a Ferrari again. It's not like any other car. |

Sit rep for all those curious (of which I'm sure there are many (kidding))
Decided to pass on the Lusso, for now. Couple reasons. 1. It's kind of shocking how much quicker the M5 is versus the Lusso. 2. The value differential between the cars is over $110k right now. I've had my M5 for 9 months and I've lost $30k in value. No way I'm spending $3500 a month to drive a BMW. The part that's killing me though is that my C8 convertible is likely delayed to 2021 even though I got my order in before the plants shut down. So I decided to search for another 458. Located a really good deal on one in Florida. Grigio Titans, 2014, full PPF, mint condition. We'll see. |

Also, my estimation is that a 458 is a car that is nearly fully depreciated (or as close as possible during Covid). The 720S has 50-75k more to fall in the next 2 years. I don't expect to keep this 458 longer than 2 years. Finally (you can see I'm all over the place) I did inquire about taking over a 720S lease. I was comfortable with a $3k a month payment and the term was only 24 months. Ally has suspended all lease transfers during Covid and for some reason won't transfer from a different state. So there went that idea. |

Very excited to have a Ferrari back in the stable. Content with the purchase 100%. I will say that in 2 years I'll add (assuming things continue to go well) a used F8. I love the F8, can't get over how we'll Ferrari nailed it. I don't think the 458 will ever not be epic though. 570 hp, 9000 RPM NA, perfect (arguably) styling.
On the topic of passing on Mclaren. I'm not 100% sure Mclaren makes it through this recession as an independent brand. Depending on how deep and long this economic collapse is. They need new leadership at the top. The QC has to improve. The new sports series is going to be a hybrid, further increasing complexity. It will be a nightmare for owners if they don't get it together. |
