LCI tail lights

I'm in the US and would prefer the amber tail lights to work exactly like they do in Europe with just the thin amber strip blinking with the signal engaged. Getting the lights and drip trim and install is doable. Just seems there is no consensus if new wiring is needed from the inner taillights to the BDC and what type of coding is needed to avoid error codes and complete functionality. Please shed some light on this(no pun intended).

We have been messing around with these lights since last summer before anyone else in the US. This would of been done already, we actually started focusing more on the conversion and forgot about the lights. Right now I also know other coders with Euro lights retrofitted on Eruo cars that are experiencing the error codes. It's not only happening with US lights. Not everyone will post whatever problems they're facing.
I can confirm that. I got the EU lights retrofitted on EU spec car with BMW internal instructions/schemes. Coded natively in Ista and I'm getting brake light code popping out randomly on ignition.
( The light itself works without problem, it just shows error from time to time )

I have no issues as long as welcome lights are deactivated which I did. So basically I use pathway lighting to turn lights on before unlocking if I want lights at unlock. Apart from that there is no issues or errors at all.

I might have to do this soon. I really like the black surrounds.

As posted in the other thread as well

As a forum should be there to help each other, instead of constantly offering services for money, I would like to share a coding solution, that works without throwing errors.

Please note, that this refers to the EURO spec rear lights on a European car, where you also need to run 2 additional wires to the BDC and re-pin the inner connector.

What I did in terms of coding:
1. Update car to latest I-Step 21-03
2. Perform LCI Rear Light retrofit measures within ISTA (this will still throw a break-light error)
3. In BDC code:
  • BL_L_Warmueberwachung & BL_R_Warmueberwachung to "nicht_aktiv"
  • BL_L_CCM & BL_R_CCM to "off"

Here you go, the rear lights work w/o error

Coding ccm only disables error showing in the Idrive, BUT error are atill present in ISTA when you scan the car. Unfortunatley after xy number of internal error check, the BDC disables outputs and they need to be activated manually. Howerver as coded ccm off there will be no error messages.

Yes, I did have the same pattern as well. The thing is, BMW still has no proper coding, which is why they are still withholding the official retrofit kit. Now they can check the wiring, but it will not fix your problem.

BTW you can even do the BDC coding yourself with bimmercode in expert mode if you are not used to esys, so that's really a piece of cake.

Very interesting and really good to hear my friend!!

Interestingly, according to the BMW dealership on Friday, the retro fit kit has been pulled again so that could explain why. You have a very good insight and this is really appreciated. As you say these forums are to help and I have found this forum a great fountain of knowledge......but also cost me a lot more money!!

Great thread. In case I second guess my own skills, does anyone happen to know if this retrofit kit is available in the US?

Me and few other people got ours from here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/20329926769...UAAOSwxSNfqZEv

Or you can also go to your local BMW parts department.
