Anyone tuned by RK Tunes?

My G30 M550i was tuned by Jordan at RK Tunes. I loved it. It was fast as fuck and reliable at the same time. It was the first M550i to go 10s in the 1/4 mile.

I’m waiting for my warranty to expire before I tune the M5. Definitely going back to RK tunes.

Is anyone here running his tune? How fast are you? How many whp? Can we see some Dragy slips? How does the car drive?

Halim at HCP and Utku Noa through Evolve are the 2 leaders. RK has a mixed reputation. My choice would be HCP.

If you’ve used him before and were happy go for it. He tuned my old F80 and I was happy with it. I believe he uses MHD now as well so I’d opt for that

No problems after hours many miles? Was it his ots tune used?

What are the mixed views on RK? From what I'm seeing as the negatives, are delayed or slow replies.

There are probably bad stories about most shops but here is one about RK. https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1987564 Obviously always 2 sides to a story. Sometimes three.

I think RK did a good job prototyping the CSF intercoolers — the fit is the most you can do in the space available. I would consider their engine rebuild with rods, though I am not confident yet with sleeving for the pistons needed for a really high power build. For tuning, based on everything I have read, I would go with Halim Cazemi or Utku Noa, unless I had to have a tune with a warranty, in which case I would go with Carbahn.

RK tunes is different than RK autowerks of I'm not mistaken. One is in TX, the other in NY.

I know of Jordan at RK Tunes from many years ago when he started tuning E36 turbos. His reputation was mixed back then with stories of blown motors, but that was long ago and any tuner should get better over time. I use NickG for my E36 turbo, but I had other tuners tell me he knew things about those ECU they were not aware of (at least at that time). I can only tell you what I would do based on my research. There are many tune sellers now so you have plenty to choose from and since you like RK, buy one from them.

Is it accurate to say tuners basically guinea pig cars with various settings and if nothing breaks/blow in the short term they know the settings are relatively safe to use? I’m assuming they don’t buy a fleet of F90s (and every other model of car they tune) and stress test them in a lab lol. Or run real accurate computational modeling to estimate failure. Maybe I’m oversimplifying it but if that’s not the case I’d be interested to know.

This is a good read — informative about the process even if it is an advertisement for the BM3 platform:

I think they use the dyno, tapping into the car to gauge knock, timing, and power to incrementally increase power then dial it back to make it safe. That's my understanding. So that initial test car is the guinea pig.

I think the prototype tune is tested on a car for a while, but don’t know how long. A safe, probably dialed back version would be sold as the off the shelf tune. A custom tune would require data logging on the car, which might result in revisions, but would not be dialed back as much since there is car specific data to support it.

I am thinking about a custom tune. I have the usual stage 2 mods, a well maintained car, an off the shelf stage 2 tune for 93 plus water/meth injection controlled by a JB4 that adds 5 psi on top of the tune. I guesstimate that I am 5% or maybe more under what a custom tune would offer.
