Weather tech mats
I got the weather tech "bucket" mats. But the carpet where the gas accel is, is all white from salt. How will i remove the stain? And any other better mats that wont let water escape?

The snow/water will still get under the mat since it isn't (and can't be) under the pedal since it's attached to the floor. You need to pull them out occasionally to clean/dry the carpet. Just use water that you use to dampen the carpet and extract it with absorbent towels if it's still damp. If it's dry, just vacuum the salt residue from the surface.

Yeah, it's ugly - the WeatherTechs still help on the dead pedal side, but no way to get around that floor-mounted go pedal. Just wish they would make a rear set that would go over the tunnel. Kids' boots make a mess back there.

I can't answer the better mats question (maybe others can chime in for that), however, to clean the area use a spray bottle of 1/2 vinegar and 1/2 water. Spray on the affected area, use a stiff brush (not a toothbrush..lol) in a circular motion on the sprayed surface. When you have gotten rid of the salt stains, use a cotton towel to damp up the residue, then when dry, vacuum the area. The vinegar will loosen the salt stains, so if you still have some hardened areas of salt, repeat the process. Hope that helps. Cheers

I agree with the above. I've cut out some vinyl fabric (think man-made leather) to protect the side walls where there is carpet, but that can only cover so much.
So far, I've just used some water with a brush to loosen the salt. Maybe when it warms up I'll mix a little bit of vinegar into the bottle as well. |
