Vehicle Weight & Performance
In Classifieds there is a dealership aggressively selling some M5s. One is the lowest optioned M5 I have seen, so it got me thinking.
Most car magazines and articles probably only measure weight and performance with the vehicle that was given to them. What would be the difference in weight of the lowest option M5 vs a fully loaded one. (with sun roof, with steel brakes) Would the difference in the quartermile time and 0-60 be significant enough to consider reducing options? Part of my never ending battle on, what is it worth to go fast? |

Unlikely to make a demonstrable difference in this car. If anything would help, though, the reduced unsprung mass of the carbon ceramic brakes would be it.

For practical purposes there's no reason to get a car without the executive package. What's the point in a sedan like this without those essential options.
Besides that though, Competition car with 789M's, Carbon Ceramics, and Carbon roof will be the lighest you can do. Everything else is going to add some weight like drivers assistance package, bowers and wilkins, rear seat entertainment, moonroof, nightvision. https://www.flickr.com/photos/dedeth...r/43148353411/ Here is a curb weight of 1890 kg in a european mag in a car with ceramics and no drivers assistance which is 4166lbs. If you add 789M wheels to that equations you're talking in the range of 4130 which is a good weight. |
