Import from USB erases any existing files in music collection

Whenever I import music from a USB using the "Import displayed folders" option, all existing music on the internal storage is erased first. This is not how my 2018 m550 behaved with the older version of iDrive. I have tested and verified that this behavior occurs multiple times because I thought I was losing my mind at first.

The only way I can seem to keep my existing files and add new ones from USB is to ensure that the existing files are also on the USB before doing the import.

Have others experienced this behavior when importing music from USB with their 2020 models/iDrive 7?

I have the exact same issue on my 2020 M5 non-comp. I had around 17GB of music stored in my Music Collection, imported new song from USB, and was left with that 1 song and around 1-2 more that were not deleted. The remaining 1500 or songs were all gone...

Based on my memory even with Idrive 4.0 it's always done that.

Say what?

I can't believe there's not a work around for this. Our 2011 535 with a physical CD player would happily add albums to the hard drive one at a time. What kind of lunacy would have removed that functionality?
Aside from the necessity to have a removable USB 2.0 device the same size as the vehicle's music storage, this requires copying data across a fairly slow USB channel for no good reason just to update one portion of that data.
Makes no sense at all!
