"Remote battery is empty"

"Remote battery is empty"

I just started getting this warning on the drivers dash display when I start my M5. Seems a little too soon to have a low remote battery, right? Remote still works without any problems but it's only been 2 days since I started getting the warning.

I only use one of the 2 remotes.

Build date 2/2019
Delivery 4/2019

Only 2600+ miles.

I will replace the battery and see if the warning clears. This happen to anyone else?

Definitely unusual to have expended keyfob battery at only 2600 miles, but it’s not impossible.

Happened to me with our Audi Q7’s keyfob. I had to replace it after only 2 months since taking delivery. Shortly after, I discovered the culprit. Our then 2yo daughter would get her hands on it occasionally and press it endlessly. Car would not respond because it’s parked too far away 50 stories below in the garage, but we figured this would happen several times a week and after 2 months of this the battery got used up. Also, consider other possible ways of repeated inadvertent keyfob button pressing; like in your pocket, purse, gym bag, etc. I admit that in the past, I’ve even caught myself pressing repeatedly on key fobs while they’re in my pocket on occasion, possibly as some form of habitual fidgeting or self-soothing, as if it was some kind of stress ball lol.

weingarm, is there any possibility that your remote got wet. Open it and see the battery itself. That might help. If not no excuse for a low battery at those miles.

Well, I replaced the remote battery with a new one and the warning is now gone.

No water inside, never got wet. I'm pretty sure I don't press buttons while it's in my pocket.

Maybe the original battery was just a bad one. Will have to see how long the new one lasts. Just 3+ months for the first!

No, everyone had this issue.

Also don't keep you key-fob in phone charger it will drain the battery.
