Edit: was a "cup" low according to the girl. Crazy that would trip the warning. Also just realized she didn't check both reservoirs. Only the main one.
Just got my first warning to. 21 with about 27k on it. Of course its the wife and baby with the car for the week as I am traveling.

Anyone confirm that these take the green HT12 coolant? Want to get some delivered to the house before I get home.

Car goes in for service in 2 weeks.... add this to the list.
I have 2021 and it takes the green. If you give BMW your VIN they will tell you the correct antifreeze/coolant. Hopefully you do not have a leak that is severe enough to damage your injectors and coils.

Green is backwards compatible so you can use it in a car that originally had green or blue. Just buy green.

i stood there while the cart girl filled it up to make sure i didnt see any obvious signs of leakage. everything looked clean so if its leaking its from the bottom where i can't see or it "evaporated" lol

I am surprised a 2021 would take the blue. I was told not to use the blue.

Wife took swung by the dealer yesterday with the car. Had them top it off. They didn't mention to her anything about a noticeable leak.

I will be back home this weekend and will take a good look under the hood.

I have a service appointment in a little less than 2 weeks. Will ask them to inspect the system at that time.

I just got notice my intercooler coolant tank is shipping after some delay. I previously preventatively replaced the engine coolant tank and the caps of both tanks. My car is a 2018 with 41k miles.

My expansion tank cracked/leaked (caused #5 & #6 injectors to fail) probably should just go ahead and change #7 and #8 soon, unless I just get rid of the car 😉

I have a 2020 but they certainly didn't look shit up. Haha they just went and grabbed some coolant and put it in. I pulled into the drive through, told an advisor I needed a top up. They directed the parking attendant and she walked away and came back 30 seconds later with a new bottle. Only saw it was blue when she was cleaning up what she spilled

My car's repair history shows "defect code: 1711024800 Radiator compensation tank leaking" @22k miles. But it does not mention any repairs for the injectors. So I guess they caught it before it did further damage.

Just replace it again at a slightly shorter mileage interval before leaking is likely to start.

Any signs of a leak? Do you still suspect leakage with all the shielding/insulation you installed.

I have no signs of a leak and won’t be worrying with the heat reduction and shielding I have done and the preventatively replaced tanks and caps.

So wondering if my car had already been in for service on this?

That only mentions coolant level. Sounds like they only checked coolant level and topped it up if needed.

Just checked under the hood and the replacement tank looks bone dry for now. It seems to me that unless BMW resolves this, it's doomed to repeat itself and I will be long gone well before it does.

Where the heck did the fluid go? Any signs of a leak? Did you smell antifreeze?

my guess is its either evaporating from loose caps? or somewhere the system is open and burning off in the engine...but like you said, i have no idea.

My SA was kind enough to give me all the unlimited free (blue) coolant I needed, sending me home every time I was at the dealer with a few large bottles to keep at home, and a few of the smaller (1 quart?) size to keep in the car at all times.

After PDI on my LCI (at a different dealership because it was purchased out of state), I asked the coolant level to be checked and topped off in my presence. They obliged (with green coolant), which I verified was in the tank to begin with. When break in service was done (with my above SA at my home dealer), it was topped off with green coolant.
Guess I'm Lucky - I have never topped up my coolant and have 38,xxx KM on the car. Did an oil change yesterday, checked coolant still good. 2018 M5.

That's incredible! Certainly an anomaly. Count your blessings!

Thank you my friend. I will probably change the coolant reservoir @ 50,000 KM just to be safe anyway. It's a few hundred bucks for peace of mind.

Good call! Based on many, many forum members’ experiences, that proactive step will almost certainly prevent a headache further down the road.
