M5 cs or m5 comp

BIMMERPOST

I'm a current m4 owner looking to pick up a new m5, I was planning on spec'ing out a British Racing Green, Tartufa interior with carbon brakes competition, but have an opportunity to pick up an m5cs. Price is almost the same. Any insight into what car would be the one to get? Thanks in advance. KS

If price is almost the same and you aren't giving anything up? CS all the way.

CS...

But you loose some of the everyday comfort stuff, like the seats for example.

I may be one of the few on here that will say what I'm about to say….

British racing green with Tartufo. CCB'S, LOADED UP is my vote. Sure the M5CS is great, but not for me. I prefer the M5 to be as it were intended to be over the years.

I was in the same boat and went with the comp. CS has no surround cameras, standard sound system, no ventilated or messaging seats, alcantara steering wheel (not so good for daily). There's other stuff I'm forgetting. This is all stuff I use regularly. If you already have a comfortable daily or don't care about that stuff, jump on that CS.

As much as the CS intrigues me, I'm moving from a 750 to the M5C. Wish I were speed and fun all the time, but the beauty of the M5C is it allows me to be both aggressive and family guy. I'm going to embarrass some speedster wanna be's and drop my kids at school in this car.

In the end, get the version that most suits you.

To OP,

I was in your same position a few months ago. The M5 CS is such a great car it made my choice very difficult. I ultimately went for a fully loaded 2022 M5 Competition because I use my car for business a lot and the sports bucket seats are not great for clients of varying shapes and sizes.

Anyway, before you make your decision go find an M3/M4 with the sports bucket seats and spend some time sitting in them.

I don’t need all the accessories of a regular M5, but would like comfortable seats and a steering wheel that won’t get dirty fast if you don’t wear gloves. Standard seats and steering wheel can be swapped in. But I am not in the market for a $140k car and am not unhappy with my regular M5. In the past, I have made my cars uncomfortable enough through modifications that my wife does not want to ride in them anymore.

I respect the CS for what it is on the track, but I just never understood the point of taking a performance luxury car and then taking the luxury out of it to basically make it stripped 4 door saloon.

IMO, the "CS" should be left for smaller/performance cars.

I'd love to drive a CS, but losing some creature comforts, and with the miles I put on, I wouldn't to daily it personally. Comp all day unless it's just a weekend/track toy

I owned a 2015 M3 (F80) for 4 years and then transitioning to my 18 M5 (F90) that I have owned for 3 years this month. One of things that attracted me to the F90 over my F80 was the upscale look and feeling of the interior of the vehicle, B&W stereo, exhaust sound of the F90 over my F80.

Having made the last payment on my F90 last month and currently waiting for the title, I to was considering the M5CS. Things that kept me from buying it.
- My current 18 base M5 (stock no tune) is fast enough for me
- Color options do not appeal to me and the gold wheels and grill are a no go on CS.
- Lack of features in the CS the big one for me is the lack of B&W stereo.
- The big one, the front seats. My neighbor bought a new M8 Gran Coupe with sport seats that look similar if not the same to the M5CS front seats. His wife refuses to ride in the car because of the seats. Getting out of the seat with the high lip on the side of the bottom seat pan can be a challenge. He is now looking to trade the car in or replace the seats.

I understand the allure of owing the M5CS and the exclusivity of a limited produced vehicle. Most people will not know what a M5CS is and will either like the way it looks or not. I remember transitioning from my C7 Corvette to my F80. Most people said you got rid of your Corvette for a 4 door 3 series.

It will be interesting to see how owners feel about the M5CS a year down the road once the honeymoon phase of owning a new car is over. One thing that I miss about my F80 is the smaller size compared to the size of my F90. I would go with a M5C over the M5CS so I could all the options I use on when driving the M5. It was one of the reasons I went with the M5 in 2018 over a 2018 Porsche 911S. However I am now considering the soon to be released Porsche 911 GTS or Corvette C8 Z06.

This is why they only import 500 of em, many people like the idea, the magazines like the idea and everyone who can't afford one loves it, but the people who can buy don't. I'll only miss surround camera, the rest of the amenities they took away are the crap I dont want that ruins my experience. Neighbor needs a smaller wife. agree, not having color choices suck

I think that with regular seats it would still be a performance luxury sedan. You can buy a regular M5 without all the accessories as well and it still qualifies as a performance luxury sedan. Really, sportiness is being added to the base M5 more than luxury is being taken away, apart from the front seats.

CS is amazing but I need my M5 to be practical for family stuff and I personally believe that a car over £100k should have all the tech stuff etc. I would go Comp.

G8X is a secret BMW plot to force us to order M5's, and it worked in my case: ordered an M5C, should be going to assembly 10 days from now. chose not to trade amenities for relatively small (imo) bhp and weight advantages.
