If the regular M5C got this kind of praise from the media, BMW wouldn't be able to build enough of them. In the end they would likely profit more, and wouldn't piss off all the people who just bought the M5C and literally cannot get a CS.

I think this is insulting to BMW customers. BMW thinks people are stupid, and consider the regular M cars as the high performance model. This move of having a watered down M model, then a good but not-quite-there Competition model, then an Uber expensive limited production CS model that finally gets it right is nonsense.

From the outside this almost looks like a case of developing the CS first and then selectively dumbing down the models below it. That's not likely what happened, but I wouldn't criticize someone for assuming.
