So far, no one has come close to AutoTopNL's 0-60/q-mile times for the M5.

Good win for the CS nonetheless!

M5 CS looks like a total home run for BMW. Seems like it's a completely different car from the Competition.

Yep, and the same can be said for the M2 CS. Whatever tweaks the M division is making to these 2 models, they seem to transform each of the cars into a different realm of sport sedan/coupe. The upcoming M4 CSL, if it's a go, certainly has its work cut out for it.

Its a shame its a limited production car. Wish they would put this much effort into the regular M cars…

It seems like the CS models are what the Competition should have been.

Yup and I heard a lot of sentiments that the M3 Comp is what the F80 M3 should have been right off the bat. This seems to reek of the suits dictating the M division rather than the engineers. They're basically required to produce three different versions of an M product, so the first two variations are compromised by design.

M2/M2C get a pass since they've always been a hoot to drive.

I think the M5C has a big customer segment - people who want the comfort, bench seat practicality, sound insulation and the GT elements for a long drive with astounding power to flaunt on the track or road. The M5 CS is more a skunkworks project for petrol heads.

I would go a step even further and say the CS models are the new ///M cars.

Less weight and a little suspension and performance tuning, done right, can go a long way. The CS seems to be absolutely outstanding. Wish I had one but I am not yet at the point where I pay $140k for cars.

Or maybe they don't have all the answers right away and need some time to tweak with live data which only comes after they've been driven a while in the real world. Seems more of a process than a 'top down' approach to me, but I can too optimistic sometimes….

….or maybe they do it this way on purpose. BMW builds something for everybody. Not everybody wants a CS, but for those that do, there is a car for them.

Carwow needs to put these high performance cars through the moose test too. Straight line speed is only one component of a good sports car.

Maybe truth to that, but I think they are mostly squeezing harder for profit now. They made "competition" what the base should be and now will hold back on the software and tuning you get with a CS.

A lot of people passed over the M5C because of the deterioration in ride quality with the harder bushings. Have heard the CS is much better in that regard, but the weight savings in the seats and CCB brakes add cost and also limit usability for a large portion of the buying population.

High level, I think BMW knows their buyers pretty well and has good stratification in the lineup.

Everyone is getting all spun up on BMW's mindset and what it all means but there's probably one major thing at play:

The buzz and marketing around this car...

The total sales for all of these cars will not crack $100M for BMW. Their total revenue last year was like 117B. This will not even account for one tenth of a percent of their revenue. I don't think they care if it's in most people's price ranges or about selling a lot of them. They got to do something limited, fun, not lose money (probably), and got a F-ton of a buzz on the car and for the brand. Mission accomplished.

The M3/4 CS models were a bit of a flop as far as sales go. Many got them at deep discounts.

The M2 CS did well, but a strong auto market helped.

The M5 CS will be a hit, also helped by the current market.

I do think the CS line is a limited market for enthusiasts that don't care about a missing armrest, or full 5 passenger seating. Plus they are crazy expensive, although justified IMO.

I think the average Corporate guy with money is okay with the regular M cars.

Love this M5.

I think one of the reasons why the M3CS flopped was because of the lack of lease program at the beginning. Once the cars started to sit on the lot BMWFS finally noticed and did something about it.

Again, with the M5CS, there is no lease program from BMWFS. Hopefully the car doesn't suffer the same fate.
