BMW Broker here, Ask Me Anything about car leases/purchases!

Hi, I'm Dan!

My user ID for the business is new, but I'm a longtime lurker/member as well on here. Like most of you on the forums, I do a ton of research on every car I purchase and value real feedback from real owners.

In a very short time, I've built up a network of 15 BMW dealers, and I do the lion's share of all BMW deals on a popular leasing forum website. I myself sell + 80 BMWs per month, and I've learned a lot about what works and what doesn't work.

There is a lot of misinformation on this forum that is either anecdotal or a true unicorn deal when all the stars lined up on one particular car buying day.

I hope to clear the air and pull back the curtain on some of the shady ways car dealers try to make money off unsuspecting buyers.

To start:

----5-6% is invoice for BMWs depending on where you live. Dealers do not lose money if they sell you a car under invoice.

----12% is triple-net-zero for dealers just to move a unit. They are losing money on your deal with the hopes of hitting a BMW bonus tier. For some high volume dealers, they must sell over 200 cars that month to get a $500- $1000 bonus on every car sold that month.

-----Flagship money is a hidden incentive to move certain models. It's specific to the production date of the car sometimes. For example, an 2020 M8 built in 2019 has $10,000 flagship compared to a $2000 for a 2020 M8 built in 2020!
Be sure to ask the forum or dealer if there is any flagship money you should be aware of!

For non-M cars, your goal should be 12% off before incentives/rebates AND a base money factor.

Dealers can easily make the discount look better if they mark up the money factor.

ASK AWAY! I'll do my absolute best not to self-promote and keep it educational and fun!

Hi Dan, what's a good discount to ask for a custom ordered M car?

YMMV but 9-10% before rebates and flagship (if applies) should be baseline

anything higher than that is amazing

don't forget it has to be paired with the buy rate MF to make it a good deal

So you’re saying this applies to custom build allocations as well?

My current M550 lease is up in end of Feb 2021. Looking at replacing with another or possibly M5 or 8series. Working backwards for getting a delivery around March 1 for SoCal, when should I start shopping to guarantee an allocation for that time frame. Also, I don't mind taking an earlier delivery if end of year incentives may be better or still availabale. When would the typical end of 2020 year incentives "end" and how would it affect negotiated prices at time of order or time of delivery. Lastly, do you also work with Porsche? Thanks for your help.

Good question! It will depend on how popular the M5 will be, and based on the 2 I sold in a matter of 1 day, I would start looking for an allocation in Early December.

Generally Dec BMW programs are great so you can lock in the program and wait to see if it gets batter in Feb/March.

Yes I do Porsche, but a person walking off the street can get the same deal I can get so no real value working with us unless you just want to make sure you don't get ripped off. Pcar dealers are generally good about not hiding money because they don't want to take the reputation risk if they start marking up money factors and such.

Are discounts on 21 builds comparable to 20 builds (ie 10% constitutes a very good deal)?

Depends on your dealer. Even now with the leftover 2020 M5/M5C, most dealers are at 3-5% off which is nuts!

LCI discount before incentives should be 6-9% should be the target based on region
