I'd say the same too before I owned one, a 2019 C4S. Bought it new and just got rid of it for my inbound F90 M5 Competition.

I actually don't miss it a bit. I also drove my friends stock 991 turbo (cream color) and sentiment was the same. Anything other than a GT3RS is not really worth it, dollar-for-dollar and thrill per mile at that price point (plus the dependability issues and repair costs).

I just didn't see what all the hype was about. So, yes they are "fun" cars but best bought used as track cars. There are many other cars that scratch the itch just as good if not better than a 911. It's amazing what good marketing can achieve.

The M5 is the complete package IMO. Luxury, stealth, executive cruise missile
I disagree. Had 2019 F90 M5 hated it. 300 miles in 6-7 months and that was NOT during Covid. It just wasn't fun driving it. This is not a knock simply not my kind of car. For context I like my M4 Comp better than I Liked my M5.

Sure it's fast in a straight line but zero fun for me anyway. I also felt from a dig it's no faster than my standard fair 992 C2S both hit 60 in 2.9-3.0. Was the M5 faster 60-120 I would say yes but not nearly as fun as my C2S. Now if People want to start comparing it to a 992 Turbo and the M5 loses by bus lengths

It's a Sedan obviously and I don't like it's steering nor suspension. A large car that's neither tossable nor sporty feeling

The 992 is a large step up from the 991 but even stock 991.2 Turbo S runs same or better times than this "tuned" 911 in the race. The 992 Turbo is running very low 10's at high trap speed in stock form

The bottom line is these two cars are for completely diff purposes.

Ones an extremely capable sedan and it does that very well the other an everyday sports car

I've owned far more BMW's than Porsches so def not a Butt Hurt Porsche owner just stating the obvious
Yes, different cars and really not comparable, just my experience and opinion. There seems to be a lot of Porsche fanboys on this BMW site and I've owned both so just chiming in. Experiences are subjective...

That Porsche should be absolutely destroying the M5 Comp, regardless of what people are saying here. It shouldn't even be close. The M5 is a masterpiece and the Porsche is just meh. Don't care about tracking, don't care about laps...

Nice cars, that M5 is something else but I do love the 911.

Bob Hoskins lookalike looked feared to death in the Porsche, however I would feel the same holding onto those beasts while they tear away from the line, but fair play, your man in the M5 was supercool.

Great video!

Current stage 2 f90s are already running in some cases 2.4-2.7s.

I think the next step is seeing as the next m5 will be electric it will indeed help get it down even faster.

Tesla is pushing it to the next level. They are saying the next model plaid or whatever it's called is going to be at 1.9s 0-60 and quarter mile in the 9.xx stock.

If you ask me I wish we can just comfortably keep the drivetrains as fully gasoline going into next gen, and keep power the same while improving other areas, I'd be more than happy as it's fast enough already now with a simple stage 1 bringing the f90 deep into 2.xx 0-60 and 10.xx quarter mile times.

Out of the few reasons to choose an M5 over any 991/2, this is not one of them.
Maybe for you
If you're just dragging the car, then neither car is a good option. If you're not, then these cars are not cross shopped so I don't know what planet you live on where someone cross shops a TTS and an M5.

Two very different cars with very different purposes and price points.

Just in case you are elsewhere, I'm located on planet earth.

You gotta realize that some people cross shop weird stuff here on earth. I cross shopped a Ford Raptor vs. M6 GC (albeit used) a couple years back.. regarding the M5 & TTS, they both can make sense for someone with a young family and who hits the track a few times per year. For me specifically, I could consider either as they each check ALL of my main criteria below:

- able to commute comfortably
- fast off the line
- able to fill role of backup track car
- back seat for munchkins in a pinch (not primary trip vehicle)
- attractive
- amenities
- AWD for year-round utility

The G80 will also fit this bill, and maybe better than either of these cars individually bc it would likely be more fun to drive than M5 on the track periodically (also if my wife wants to do a few days), but more utility than the 911.

I'm sure people who like to only cross shop nearly identical cars, this seems ridiculous. But on earth, we do what we want.

I wasn't addressing you and you have no context. The other user implied he would choose an M5 over a TTS because it tunes/drag races better.

I said that should be the last reason you would cross shop these two. I don't give a shit what your sensitive ass cross shops, but I was referring to dragging and tuning cars.

You get into family and entirely different criteria.

There's a difference between choosing a 200k car or 100k car to drag, and choosing either to meet your various personal needs INCLUDING tracking the car (not just drag racing).

I'd take the 911 Turbo S personally

But man that M5C moves out like a mad dog

The Porsche is just 3.8L and at 640 HP stock it may just not have much more in the tank. That's already a lot of power out of a 6.

Panamera is a much more logical choice for comparison to an M5 I would have thought, both luxury barges that are fast in a straight line & good for doing the shopping & ferrying the kids around.

Keeping it simple,

Padfan said this is why (drag race?) he/she chose the M5 over the other.

I said, or meant, drag racing should be the last purpose you cross shop these two cars. Basically, no one would ever cross shop these two if NOT doing more than pure drag racing.

Pretty much it

I just reread though and meant usually not. Thats my fault. Or my iPhone.

I'm not up to speed on what folks are doing with the 3.8 but I'll assume they are changing intervals/turbos, etc.

M5 is a luxury sport monster. The Porsche is well... a Porsche. Both sick vehicles but I'd obv take a Porsche over an M5 unless I needed the space for family or something.

I had an F10 stage 2 and it was very fast and good looking but I just didn't trust it on long drives. Most unreliable BMW I've ever owned and I've owned 13 of them. Hopefully these new ones are better, time will tell.

I considered the 992 911 and decided I did not want a small car with essentially no room for more than one passenger. No desire for a car with such a low seating position.

I'll still take a Turbo S over any BMW. It's definitely a dream car to own along with a GT3
