What are people paying for Pilot Sport 4s

Curious to what the going rate is for these in the standard fitment.
Thank you in advance.

I start with Tire Rack for pricing shipped to me. My local Town Fair Tire will match that price for tires. These days you also pay for tire disposal, mounting and balancing so maybe they play with those variables. It may be hard to compare the price out the door mounted and balanced to the online tire price. Mounting and balancing and disposal probably varies depending on where you live.

Call Costco if you are a member. They almost always have a deal going on, on Michelin tires. I paid 1150-1160 total installed, including tax for PS4S-AS in January. PS4S-Summer were about $500 more from what I remember. They can order any Michelins you need. They also provide free roadside hazard warranty and other benefits.

What’s up with the tire rack having them listed multiple times as if they’re all different tires? Are there different variations of this tire?

Look for the BMW Star to get the BMW rated version.

Though I haven’t checked recently, they are usually different OE versions for different manufacturers (they typically always have Porsche and Genesis), and likely one “generic” version. Star marked is BMW OE.

In the UK certain sizes (especially M5 BMW * homologated) are in very short supply....read unavailable from Michelin in M5 sizes.
The war in Ukraine has severely disrupted supplies of Carbon Black causing manufacturing difficulties and price rises.
M5 sizes are available for Ferrari with the K designation but these are apparently quite a different design.

Yes. You can run any of them but I would recommend to at least keep the fronts the same and the rears the same. Don’t worry about it being BMW star. I’m running bigger tires than oem so I can’t run the bmw star as they only come in oem sizes. So I’m running generic PS4S. Also much easier to source than bmw star.

The different oem modifiers can change tread depth, compound on different parts of the tire, or even sound deadening material such as Mercedes who runs a foam insert inside the tire.

Ahh I see. So even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t be able to get these tires in bmw star matching for sizes 285/35/20 front and 295/35/20 rear

You might. I think I looked recently and they were available. Or maybe I was looking at 305 rears. Anyway, I recall being surprised.

Echoing that you should match the fronts as a pair and rears as a pair. Also here's a video breaking down the differences between the BMW PS4S vs normal PS4S

I assume that anyone running non std tyres are carefully matching the tyre diameters front and rear to stop the differentials getting overworked?

They should. I run square fitment front to back for this reason.

285/35 R 20's on street tires.

285/30 R 20's on track tires, because availability of track tires in 285/35's SUCK. Requires a 5mm spacer in front to clear on rims that are for rear fitment to not rub in the front, but I run proper spacers with increased length lug bolts to work.

I figure 275's would be a little more "lively" in the handling department. True or just about the same?

I have not had any "lively" feel on my squared 275/35/20. I am not running any spacers, and had custom wheels made. I am running the Xcomp HP 200TW. Let me know if you ever want to try them...

20 x 10.5's. Similar to stock rear wheel on offset.

Discovered that would work fine when dealer installed rear wheels on the front. No kidding.
