Taken delivery and no shutdown issues?

Have you taken delivery of your M5 and not experienced the shutdown issues others have experienced? It would be good to get an understanding of how many people are not having problems with their cars. Please state mileage and if you have had the 1200 mile service done.

For those of us about to receive our cars, we may be better off waiting until this issue is better understood and resolved.

I took delivery 2 weeks ago and haven't had any issues yet.

VIN: 2543
Mileage: 400
Fuel: 93 octane

I've gone as low as 1/8 tank of gas.

i've been trying to keep tabs and it seems like 1/3 to 1/2 of the people that have posted that actually own the car have had this issue. Pretty crazy.
Now given, some people have posted because of the issue while I'm sure there are many that own the car that have had no issues and thus haven't come to the interweb to complain so the data is skewed but still, this is clearly an issue that needs to be addresed.

Asking people on a forum might make you feel better but will not give you scientifically valid results.

While we're talking anecdata, I had a F10 with the dreaded "* Malfunction" messages that was not corrected within Lemon Law limits, BMW ended up buying it back after I got a lawyer involved. Heard this was not uncommon. Heard from a CA at local BMW dealer that the N63 was trash and he didn't recommend it to anyone. Wife's X5 also had various CEL issues. Formed my own opinion of BMW - nice cars but buggy... will only lease from here on out.

Somehow am I not surprised to hear people having Drivetrain Malfunction/HPFP issues.

I am on the same boat. My car will be here probably in a month. I sent an email to BMW Canada but most likely will not get anywhere. I am going to ask my SA if the issues have been resolved closer to the date.

That being said, if this is affecting specific batch of M5 BMW Germany should have already received whole bunch of incident reports from M5 owners in Europe a month earlier. Hopefully this issue has already been addressed when our cars were being built. My vin# is after 2950.

Another issue is that having no shutdown problem now doesn't mean that the problem will not manifest later on.

If this has something to do with the fuel tank lining, then it may affect a small number of cars only, or worse yet the lining can fail at different rate with different production lots.

In that sense, perhaps having the problem now and ensure that it is properly address is better than having one fail shortly after warranty or after some mods which BMW will no doubt blame on.

I sincerely hope that this issue only affects a small batch of cars.

It appears a software update resolved it. NO WAY its worth not having this car for. Its still an amazing car. Light years ahead in all aspects - technology, feedback from the car, etc. For me, the connection I feel with this build model surpasses anything I had with the E60 M5 and that was also an amazing car. God bless the Germans for giving us these cars!!

Sorry I didn't post my VIN before. It is 2085. No issues so far, just over 1200 miles, completed break-in service yesterday.
