Sticking points with the f90 m5
Still driving an f10 m5 competition package, I think my biggest issue with the new m5 is still the exhaust sound inside the cabin. Outside sounds great, but when you can’t hear it inside, it detracts from the drive in my opinion. I used to have the v10 m5 which was superb in that respect, but the f10 has and continues to disappoint.
Based on new reviews and videos i’ve researched, it seems the new m5 still has not fixed this issue, while other cars like the e63s have got it right. I wonder how owners of the new m5 feel about this. Is the sound better? Or is everyone scrambling for aftermarket exhausts? Curious. Side note, why did bmw continue to use half ass calipers in the rears, even for the ceramics (I think)? Seems ridiculous for such a pricey car. Don’t get me wrong...love the m5’s...but just frustrated they can’t get these things right. |

Not sure if it's coming through the speakers but the F90 sounds better "inside" than my F10 did with an Akrapovic exahust. My F90 has the sports exhaust.
This is a good example of what it sounds like inside. Go to 8:25 mark Last edited by BG23; 04-20-2018 at 01:41 AM.. |

It's the same on the E63S or all other cars on E parking brakes. One thing you can do is add a real caliper of your liking, but it would look funky. However that is what Tesla did, so I have two calipers on my P100D rear wheels. By the way there is a YouTube video of BMW engineer (not some dealer mechanic) explaining this when they first introduced the CCBs for the M5 and M6 in 2013. So I guess the question is why hasn't Brembo improved it yet. |

Also, when you say better, do you mean the sound quality or is it actually louder? Thanks |

+1 on Exhaust Note. My Dealer indicated that a full TI Exhaust is coming as an option.
Rear brake caliper explanation is strange. Many other cars manage to have a "real" rear caliper... . |

With a 60-0 stop in 97 feet, the rear calipers can be made out of toddler fingers for all I care. This 4300lb monster stops shorter than an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio (99 feet)!

In the cabin it's better and louder, outside quieter and not as good as my F10 with akra - but significantly better (and louder) than stock. I found you needed to open the window a bit in the F10 as the cabin was just so well insulated. NOt sure if you are aware but BMW performance have done a full Ti exhuast (not yet released) but has been shown below - go to 3min mark. I am assuming akra and others will also be releasing their exhuasts in coming months - I can't wait! |

I have the msport exhaust. For me, it's more than enough for a sedan.
The exhaust button make a big difference when you are in sport mode.cut the sound for a 1/2. In my opinion, with msport, that's sound great. For the fake sound from speaker, didn't feel intrusive at all. Not the same sound as a maseratti or a e63s. Not the same kind of note. I never goes on an f10. So can't compare.. For caliper, i heard it's because they used electronic parking brake... Last edited by MTHX; 04-21-2018 at 09:12 PM.. |

Standard exhaust is very quiet IMO. M sport exhaust should be the sweet spot but I haven't heard it in person yet.

It will interesting to see who the manufacturer is. Not Akra per Akra this time. Not many manufacturers tooling Ti. My 2001 ZO6 came with Ti. I think Arvin built it.

Hopefully cost will be lower this time around. $10k for exhaust is nuts IMO.

Agreed. I paid $6xxx for the Akra on my X5M. I could stand that again for Ti. Probably won't be that low early on though. If it's $10xxx, Ill look at the stainless options.
