Whats new for 2022 models?
Put in an order back in December and finally got a production number last week on Feb 15, almost two months after reservation order. Couldn't get brands hatch grey, the system would not let him input it, so my second choice was Bluestone Metallic. The only saving grace is that the 50th Anniversary BMW logos are part of the order now.
I don't know if that was a sales tactic, but when my salesman called me about inputting the production order, he said that it was between me and some other guy who reserved it around the same time as me, he didn't know who ordered first. He said the other buyer was prepared to pay $5k over MSRP. And that I had to be 100% sure because they never would order an M5 without the Executive Package, which was never brought up as an issue back in December when we made a reservation. I told the salesman I don't need an executive package, I'll never use any of the features, my other car had similar features which I never cared to use or they were too gimmicky. Anyway the production number has my name on it, so hopefully I'm locked in and there is no other guy that can steal the car form under me. I assumed I was the only buyer for an M5 at my local dealership since they struggled to get one allocation from December until now. I am genuinely curios what's new for 2022 models compared to 2021? The CS stole all the spotlight for 2022, so a google search or even a forum search brings up nothing. Did more color options get added? Maybe some optional features became standard? Was there any new tech or improvements to the suspension, drivetrain or powertrain added? I come from an AMG so I don't know much about the smaller details of the M5, like do the laser headlights come standard now? Last edited by TFBravo; 02-22-2022 at 09:35 PM.. |

I recently looked line by line through the ordering guides for model year 2021 vs 2022 as I recently placed an order myself for a 2022.
The only difference in standard features that I could find was the deletion of wireless charging from MY2022, likely due to chip shortages. Options are the same, but others have had issue with getting the B&W stereo upgrade. |

Mercedes and Chevy do deliver the car to the customer right now, and install the chips as they come in later. Chevy's heated seats are not working and Mercedes wireless phone charging, telemetry and remote starts are not working. I specifically asked if the M5 would lose or have some options not working until a chip installation at a later date, since the M5 comes standard with a lot of things, like heated steering wheel and heated front seats. So I would hope wireless charging is still there, I never used it in my E63S since its slow and a smaller Galaxy S21 wouldn't fit all the way anyway. So there was no option for B&W audio system which I though was standard, it comes standard in Volvos. Is there something wrong with the Harman Kardon system? I would assume the standard audio system in a 100k+ sedan should still sound superb. I have some expectations coming from an E63S, I know the exhaust system won't sound the same, but I expect good audio system, smart laser headlights... ect from an M5. But having said all that, what will arrive whenever it arrives is what I get, but Id be pissed if they try and pull a fast one on me and exchange the 50 year badges to standard ones somewhere during the delivery process. I think digital key specifically refers to being able to use the app/your phone to unlock and drive the car. The card is call the "key card" and is different in that it's a separate function and I think the car can have keycard but not support digital key if it's been removed.

Does the M5 have at least smart headlights? The ones that turn with the steering input, light up corners when you turn the blinkers on at very low speeds or about to make a hard right turn at low speeds, having the high beams still be on and not blind on-coming traffic or reflect off the sings. Do a cool pattern when you turn them on at night. All features of multi beam leds in my past 2020 E63S. I'd be disappointed with a 2022 tech car being behind a 2020 car for $120K.

My car is on a boat, but perhaps a CS owner can take a closeup of their headlight....

The differences between Laser and LED are so minimal, it isn't anything to worry about...

Just to follow up on this, my newly delivered MY2022 (week 9 build) does have wireless charging, the digital key (black NFC card), and hands free trunk opening (via aimless foot waving underneath).
As far as I can tell, there were no features deleted as compared to a MY2021 build. Happy to check specific functionality for those that are still waiting for their cars. |
