Software or not, it’s good to formalize it in a recall. Loss of power on highway in heavy traffic wouldn’t be cool. At least I haven’t heard of any accidents.

All bugs are not the same, some are hard to find or never caught during the test phase but one would think something like this should have been found earlier.

Never understand why would someone buy a car near the end of it's gen.

If you want reliability buy a Toyota.

Yep....damn BMW. I wonder how no other manufacturer ever has to deal with recalls....especially on newly released models.

This was a damn scary problem. First road trip on my M5. Car had about 900 miles. It went into limp mode at full speed on high way. I had the sense to move to shoulder quickly and then the engine shut down. I waited a minute and turned on and it was fine. But could have been bad.
They fixed it in the 1200 mike service.

Has anyone else checked the power output in their sport displays after getting the update? My torque now seems to be capping out around 500 ft lbs even with everything in sport plus. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I was paranoid that my Euro Delivery would not have the software update so I got the names and emails of some senior level BMW execs and wrote an email. I let them know about the Bimmerpost blog that characterized the problem and the solution. They had someone personally check to make sure that my car had the latest software. Was very reassuring. Phenomenal follow up from both Germany and BMW NA.
