M Performance Brakes Question (another one)
So it appears that the MPB kit has the same size rotors on the front and back as the M Sport brakes. So all you're really getting is better looking calipers and the rear caliper is an actual upgrade. I think the front caliper is identical.
For all my brake buffs out there - here's the question. Could you put the FRONT MPB rotor/caliper on the front and move the FRONT MSport rotor/caliper to the rear? This way you'd have 370mm rotors in the front and back but you would obvoiosly have to get the rear caliper painted....

Oh I didn't realize that. From what I've seen, I assumed they were the exact same calipers up front.... So do you think you can put the Larger Front MSport Calipers on the rear?
That would look a lot beefier and better than the rear MPerf Calipers in the rear.

People keep seeing MSport and thinking the brakes are bigger in some way, largely because other countries get that. But we do not.

Well we know for sure that the FRONT MSport calipers/rotors are larger than the REAR MPerf calipers/rotors. So back to my question, would the MSport fronts be able to be moved to the rear?

But you a messing with brake proportioning and balance. The car needs to be coded just when adding MP brakes which they know how to code as it was engineered in house. Now you are kind of making your own recipe. So good luck on coding and setting up the car for proper balance.

I was wishfully thinking I could put the front MSport on the rear, MPerf on front, code for MPerf and have the beefier look of the MSport caliper on the rear.

No one is going to be able to definitively say it will work or F up your car, not even BMW. But my gut says it will be a gamble and could cause poor braking.

Cool, thanks for your input. That's why I opened this thread b/c I don't know too much about brake systems. Guess I'll stick w/ the regular MPerformance.
Do you know what the stock MSport rear calipers are?

I wouldn't do it. At all.
Brake balance is a delicate matter, and like Jameson said, the aftermarket tests this out extensively...the only other "beefy" option is through Stoptech directly, and that's still a 6/4 design (but costs $6-7k!) also requires some trimming, so kiss warranty items good bye: I honestly think the MBP looks plenty nice on the rear...

Off the top of my head I think stock rears are single caliper.

Are you sure?
From my reading the stock 335i calipers are 4 pot front and 2 pot rear. Some picts have confirmed this. On the 328i they are 2 pot front and 1 pot rear. The brakes on my 135i were great and had much better pedal feel compared to my 335i Msport. Brake travel was shorter and modulation was more force based with less travel. The front calipers were Brembo 6 pot and the rear 2 pot. And they looked better too. |

328i line is 2/1 335i ENTIRE line is 4/2. Only differences are the M Performance Rotors/pads are much larger/wider with the 4/2.

I'm seeing so much variation from different countries, I'm no longer confident in what BMW standardizes for brakes across the different continents...

I've seen that thread. Also, in another thread you say that the stock 335i rears are single pot, but looking at those pics it looks like the rears are 2 pot, as there appears to be a cylinder on both sides. Do you have a pic of the stock 328i calipers? But as I said, I'm not positive as I haven't seen them in the raw. Thanks for the info and please share any more info you have on the stock rears. |

http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...69&hg=34&fg=10 The 2-pot rear caliper is only fitted to either M-sport brake (option 2NH) or M-performance brake. 2NH is currently not available in the US (as u well know). http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...33&hg=34&fg=10 Stock 328i front & rear are also single-pot sliding calipers http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...68&hg=34&fg=05 http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts...69&hg=34&fg=10 Btw, I think the US-spec 328i M-sport comes not only with Euro pads, but also with standard EU-spec front discs (i.e. 330mm vs 300mm) and caliper brackets. U already got M-performance fitted? Then no need to look as the rears are 2pot fixed.
