good idea to move from F86 to F90 M5 ?
Hi folks,
I am currently a 2017 X6M owner, was thinking about update my car. Part of me wants the new 911 4S, meanwhile I do want to consider practicability (also budget ) Do you guys think it is worth updating from F86 to F90 in terms of driving experience: handling/DD? Thanks a lot. Recursion Last edited by recursion; 05-21-2020 at 04:51 PM.. Reason: typo |

Definitely.
The F90 is stupid fast, and handles like a dream, for a large car that is.

Do you need a back seat? Are you OK with getting into and out of a 911 and being that close to the ground? Totally different experiences between the two vehicles. M5 is a very, very fast and capable luxury car. 911 is a traditional Grand Touring car and is going to be louder with more feedback, but also sharper responses and more engaging.

[QUOTE=brava09;26202767]Definitely.
The F90 is stupid fast, and handles like a dream, for a large car that is. Thanks for your input. the F86 I’m having just does not feel quick when flooring it , although it is actually pretty quick for a SUV. (Might be too big/heavy). I want to make sure it is worth the money considering it is basically same engine with slight different tune. |

Story, also probably want to keep it 5+ years. Reliability is another factor. But man, the Doug score of M5 really gets me here. |

The M5 is a decent improvement over your x6m but it'll just feel like a shorter, lighter, slightly more powerful version of your car. It's not a huge difference like a 911 would be.
On paper, the 992 4s doesn't seem to justify the price over an M5 but if you test drive it, you will most likely agree with the price difference and might even find the 911 to be too cheap for how good it is! |

The F90 M5 handles better than you might imagine...check out its nordschleife lap time and some of the company it keeps there.

I came out of an X5 to an F90 M5. Keep in mind about the ground clearance too. The front of the M5 never touches the ground but I'm sure the 911 will from time to time.

But the M5C is very fast stock and handles like its on rails! Much more capable performer than my nearly 700hp F85. Again, sans the space issue, you shouldn't miss the F86 although at times I do ask myself whether I loved my F85 because of the overall performance or because of how it performed for an SUV. We did pick up an X7 4.0i M sport for the wife to make up for the lost space and addition of baby #2 - she had a 17 GLC 43. We're very happy with both purchases! |

I'm going to purchase the 992s or 4s 911 after trading in my f85 X5M. I am very disheartened by BMW's steering feel in these M cars. The F85 or F86 is a fantastic vehicle but there is no connection between car and driver and from what I have read this applies to all M's except maybe the M2. BMW M's very fast, good handling, effortless driving (geez) boring. A manual transmission 992 will satisfy my longing for involvement.

To me, the M5C is best bang for your buck of any sports sedan on the market. If they go hybrid and the execution is flawless I would consider an upgrade but otherwise, I'm set for at least 3-4 years. I haven't even done any performance mods yet. Also my opinion but the M8 GC isn't $20-30k better than the M5C and while I like the Porsche Panamera Turbo S Sport Turismo E-Hybrid, I'm not interested in buying a used car for $140k+. |

I had a 2019 M5 and now have a 992 C2S. It all depends on what you need. Yes the M5 is faster in a straight line on the highway. Off the line probably due to excellent PDk trans they feel the same. I enjoy the 992 much much better. Handling/steering/fun. I don't need a back seat for ppl but do put things in the back seats when needed.

Hearing most of porsche dealers are going is 7% off ish which should keep values higher at least in short term. Well worth it for me. I barely drove the M5 love the 992 I skipped the C4S bc unlike past gens the 992 gen is same body exact same car other than awd and a 7300 cost. With the engine in rear I don't slip and don't need awd. Again IMO for my use and for what I think is substantially more fun to drive there is no comparison I had a M4 Comp and I liked that better than my M5 just for some perspective on my end
