I need a car for 4 - 6 months. Options?
Here's the situation...
Been out of the US for a few years. In the process of moving back. I am ordering 2 cars in the next few months: 1 - company car - 2020 Ford Explorer - delivered July - August 2 - 2020 M5C - delivery september? Rather than pay $1000/month for a shitbox rental, I am curious if there are other good options out there for something nice. Doesn't have to be a BMW but I want something in the BMW/Merc/Audi range I think. No big deal if there is overlap and I end up with 3 cars for a couple months. I have looked on Swap a Lease and there just isn't anything appealing. Any thoughts? |

I agree. Try the Fair app. Lots of good options on there.

I looked at fair. prices look good except when you factor in the first payment/processing fee, which is 4 times the monthly cost. pretty neat deal regardless. this could be the best option.

Short term needs are going to be limited.... Ride Share can work if you dont mind or get your company to pay or partially pay for a rental and upgrade.

Does dealer whom you are buying the M5 from have any thing to offer? Perhaps a short term lease on a used BMW that had been returned at end of a lease? If you are buying a car from them they will be perhaps more motivated to help you out?

Agree...would try this first. When we ordered my wife's Yukon XL Denali, we were trading in her current car and the pre-owned manager wanted her car right away. The wait for her order/build was about 2 months, so the dealer gave us a brand new Denali to drive for free until her car arrived.

I bought a pre-owned 911, drove it for 6 months and damn near got what I paid for it when I sold it. Lost out on some taxes here in Texas, but it was worth it to drive it for 6 months. You could always trade it in, or do a dealer in/out to get some of the tax money back on your new purchase.

My local dealer has a fairly loaded M5 with 2700 miles for $109K. Could probably get it close to $100K with some negotiation. Personally I would not buy new.
Do you need 4 doors? If not I would do a 911 as stated above. Will hold its value much better in the short term. |
