It took me between 30-40 minutes to install the MMR paddles.
The hardest part was being able to push the pins to release the springs that are holding the airbag. For some reason, even with the battery disconnected, I was constantly seeing the picture in my mind that the airbag would blow up in my face... I was not able to figure out a way to unclip the connectors of the paddle shifters so I had to work with them still attached by pulling a little on the wire holding them. I had to work behind the wheel, between the wheel spokes, not an ideal position. In the end, it went well. The instruction video of MMR really helped although there are some differences on the M5 vs the car they used in the video.

Wow very reasonable price on the paddles you recommended... look rock solid, I was considering the new M paddles but those are 700, bit much. I will check these out, thanks for the feedback. |

The backs of the new M3 carbon paddles are rubber (by design). If you want the best feel in the hand, get metal paddles. Also most aftermarket designs are still larger than the new BMW carbon paddles.

I felt them irl and I thought they were rubber but they weren't exactly grippy. But it's the same difference whether they're rubber or plastic or even fully carbon fiber like my autotecknic ones-they just won't give you the same touch experience as a set of nice metal paddles.

Honestly, don't pay the dealer to instal these. I almost did that but decided to give it a try and it was really straightforward.
I went with the 3D design set on my M5C and I'm really happy with them so far.

I never said the new M paddles aren't carbon. I know they're carbon, and just added the red piece on the back on top of the carbon intentionally, while other paddles like autotecknic don't have anything other than the carbon on the back, but at the end of the day carbon fiber feels just like smooth plastic to the hand.

Nah the ones in the picture aren't m performance. M performance trim don't have a hole down the middle and it will say "m performance" down the middle in a matte carbon finish.

autotecknic makes them just like the one in the pic. Normal glossy carbon fibre retaining the hole in the middle, but only downside is the M logo on the bottom is not present on the autotecknic ones.
