I think it's probably 10.5 liters. My E92, which is a 4 liter V8 is 8.8 liters. Not 8.9. Not 8.7. With the finicky electronic "dipstick" 8.8 is it, no more, nor less. My X5 which was a 4.4 liter V8 was 10.5 liters. I haven't changed the oil in my M5 myself, so haven't really looked into it, but yeah, 10.5 sounds right.

Lol, Jesus people I love this forum but I swear. Do y’all really not know how much oil goes into the car? Do you really think it’s 6 Liters? Whoever said that.

I have no idea. I don’t change my oil. I don’t know how much windshield wiper fluid or coolant goes in it either. Lol. I mean if I were going to change my own oil I’d figure it out about 5 minutes before buying the oil though but I guess this maybe solves the mystery. A fat fingered entry maybe.

Incorrect. I use 10 liters initially then ISTA usually tells me to add .5-.75L.

No they don't. There's nothing special about a V8 that makes it take a lot of oil.

Now if you mean to say "Modern German engineered V8's take a lot of oil", well, you'd be damn right. But, its mostly because of the oil change interval demands and strict worldwide catalytic converter demands and fuel efficiency requirements that make german V8's need about 2 gallons in the sump.

A Dodge Charger hellcat is about 7 quarts. Total. Modern. Not sold worldwide. And dodge engineers are Neanderthals. And their customers don't care about changing oil more often than BMW/Merc/Audi customers. They just don't. And, they WILL NOT pay $12/quart for a 10.5 quart oil change. Forget it. Ford's might. They won't.

The engineering ADVANTAGES of a huge sump capacity are there. There are some downsides. Not many, but a few.

Been changing my own oil since my first car, a 1967 Ford Fairlane, which took about 5 quarts of oil. My second German car, a 2014 MB ML350 took 2 gallons. I did it myself, cause the bastards at MB won't do free maintenance, and just the oil was over $200.

I wish my GT-R had held more oil. We had a hell of time keeping it cool cause it held only five quarts. Even bigger oil coolers didn't help much. Made me appreciate 2 gallon sumps.

The larger sump is to also help maintain oil flow with hard sideward forces in cornering as the oil moves off to the opposite side. Other wise the sump can be empty at the oil pump pick up point. And certainly larger oil capacity helps with heat. Of all the costs of these cars the oil change is the least of my concern.
