It's actually been unseasonably warm here in the northeast the past few days. They say it will get into the lower 50s tomorrow. But if you do decide to stay up here and go to school for a few semesters, once you move back to CA, I think you might miss the changing of the seasons.

I guess it's just a case of the grass is greener kind of thing. I would give anything to live there and have seasons like that. Of course no winter means no skiing, and I love to ski!

Hey if you like to ski and you end up deciding to spend a few semesters in New York, make sure you check out the poconos for skiing season. It's only about a 1-1.5 hours drive from manhattan. There's also a lot more to do...white water rafting in the Lehigh...pretty cool if you have some free time and feel like you're stuck in the city, def. worth checking out!

Well then it sounds as though we need to arrange an informal E90 NYC meet on your behalf - in the pub

i would recommend renting a car when you are visiting cause NJ Transit is not the greatest.
Newark (as well as any city) has it's good parts, it's bad parts, and its "OH MY GOD GET ME OUT OF HERE" parts. Newark is not that bad if you know what areas to stay away from and what subway/train/bus lines to not ride especially at night! I grew up around Philly and there are definately some really nice places and then there are areas I WOULD be caught dead in... Just be careful and ask the front desk at the hotel before you start walking anywhere at night

As for renting a car... If you have never been to NJ before and driven there (esp in the Newark/NYC area), that would be an experience in itself that you will not soon forget

Oh, and Bella, I think you have to be 25 to rent a car. 21 isn't the magic number for that

Yeah I'm 22 too...just when you turn 21 you think ok, this is it...I can do anything now. But you can't--you've got to be 25 to rent a car or be a limousine driver.

the being 25 to be able to rent a car is the DUMBEST rule evver! I think its so dumb.

if a person is old enough and responsible enough to purcahse a car, they should be able to rent a car! when i took my car into volvo dealership to have them service it, they said theyd gimme a loaner.. when i got there.. i gave htem my dad's credit card so they could charge anything if i didnt fill back up the laoner car with gas.. and when i showed them my dad's credit card + m ylicense.. tehy were like "omg ur not 25?" and im thinking 'do i even LOOK 25??' so they were like SORRY U CANT GET A CAR. so i drove ALL TEH WAY tehre for nothing ANDDD they wouldnt gimme a car. i think thats so dumb. if i can afford a car, i obviouslyy should be able to get ar ental car. i feel even worse for people who are liek 20 and are on their own without their parents adn they cant even rent a car. what do u want them to do? walk? geeze. i know its nothing i should get worked up over, but it bugs me till no end. that's the dumbest rule ever. if someone has good car insurance with liek good coverage and they obviously have their own car, then they should be able to rent a car. right? stupid rules.

There are some really cheap hotels in NYC... if you don't mind paying extra for sheets.

I luckily have the opportunity to go to med school in such a "dynamic" city, and let me tell you, (and trust me on this one) you really don't want to be walking around Newark (at anytime).

Also, you can get a rental car at 22. For the short-time period between selling my old car and picking up my E90, I had to use a rental car for my commute. I'm also 22, which sucked because if you are between 21-25, you have to pay the age differential fee (which I believe was like $20).

If you happen to be in the Princeton area during your trip, give me a holla, and I'll be more than happy to show you around.

yeah the car is under my mom's name. i dont know why they didnt put my name? maybe because i was a minor and i didnt pay for any of it.. but i was still really upset they hadnt told me b efore. i drove all teh way to the dealership by myself.. and then they turned me down. waste of miles! i put on miles going back and forth to that place. i think if i can afford one of their cars, they should have let me have a loaner.
