2 months at port

Hi all,

How long is it taking to get your m5? My car's been at port since Feb 25th and still reads "Your BMW has arrived at the port. (Bon voyage!)"...for two months?!

I've been told by the dealer that this is normal and that everyone is facing it, but I don't believe them.

Are any of you all facing similar delivery delays? For the record, I don't have b&w and there was never a stop order on my car.

I feel like every car lately had been impacted by the RAM retro fit issue. Your CA should know this and tell you though if there the case. Two months just to find transport would be insane. I would assume some kind of damage or a stop sale. If the former I think they're required to tell you at some dollar amount/level of damage. Any way, if you want to check yourself if there's a recall or stop sale — punch your VIN into this and see what it says:

thanks! I just ran my vin and it showed no issues. Lol, I think bmw lost my car at the port. I was told the war in ukraine is causing a backup at the port in germany.

they haven't told me of any damage to the car and did tell me there wasn't a stop sale on it. I'm pretty close to just not wanting it and buying something else.

It's like they are trying to find all sorts of explanations.

Two months is longer than average, my car sat at Bremerhaven for a month waiting to get on a ship.

My car arrived at the port 1/22 and was assigned a vessel on 2/23.

Yes, that does seem like an excessively long time at port. My car was at the port a week after yours, 3/5. It spent a little over three weeks there and was in transit on 3/28. Exactly four weeks later, 4/25, the car arrived at Hueneme VPC. I was told that the car should be at the dealership in the next two weeks barring any issues. The car did not have B&O.

Yeah, for sure. I would be feeling the same way if I were you.

I seriously doubt they are actively delaying your car and there must be some reason, but some clear communication would go a long way. Hoping your car starts moving!

there's got to be a reason. I'm hoping they didn't lose a car like that on the port lol. But what gets me is the dealer keeps telling me it's any day now but gives no specifics as to why it's been delayed for so long other than porsches, ferraris, and lambos are also being delayed.

My experience with the dealer, as well as reading the posts of others here, leads me to believe that the information coming from BMW is not very precise nor much of a priority. Not to say I blame them, given the logistics/supply chain nightmares we currently have - and I'm sure that attitude trickles down.

But as the one purchasing the car, I anticipate an appropriate level of clarity and diligence, and that doesn't seem to be the case. Sadly, this has become a pretty common experience across all industries as the pandemic has lowered the bar. I just hope that at some point we recover.

Here was my timeline for my week 9 build.

March 09 - finished assembly
March 15 - arrived at port
March 19 - ship sailed from Germany
April 09 - ship arrived at NJ VPC
April 15 - arrived at dealer

I think I may have lucked out in that I got out just before factory shutdowns in mid March. However, two months at port still seems abnormally long to me even in current circumstance, especially given that my car arrived at port a couple of weeks after you and I've already taken delivery.

I'd reach out to BMW genius if you haven't already if you're not getting any clarity from your dealer.

genius's don't have any updates either.

I called the genius and they said they had no idea either...and that it should be any day now. Guess I'll call them in a week.

If you haven't tried this already, ask the sales manager at your dealer call their BMW NA area rep to look into it. That person should be able to get more info about what's going on.

reread post 12 again. You guys can call over and over, whoever you want. It doesn't matter. The car will and can sit there for weeks, and sometimes months. And if someone says their guy did this and did that to expedite things at port, they are lying.

so this happened today and the area rep said that there are a bunch of ships heading to port for pickup in may and the car should be on the boat and the backlog of cars should be cleared in a couple weeks....

Honestly, I've lost confidence in bmw.

I'm convinced this is the truth, sadly. I'm going to put a date in my mind (say May 15), and if the car is still at port, I'm not buying it and I'll never buy a bmw again.
