Replacing front facing camera

I am planning on pulling my front bumper and taking care of a couple upgrades/repairs. I have a lowered replacement grille, camera, drl module, and a couple other items to address.

When replacing the camera do I need to do anything to ensure the new one works/functions correctly? Does it need to be coded? What I don’t want to do is pull it all apart and swap it out just to find out that there is something to code that I don’t know how to do.

Any help or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you for posting this. Replacing the camera is pretty straight forward and simple. Just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to regret doing it by failing to code something.

Well, I can factually report today that the replacement camera would not display when it was swapped in. I received a camera malfunction error. As soon as unplugged the OE camera back in, everything works as it should, minus the 40 rock chips in the camera lens.

Does anybody else have any insight or input? I am reaching out to see if I can exchange the camera as maybe it is defective but it is an OEM bmw part.

double check part number......I had issues with various electronic items before. I got a new sensor for the windshield and the item I got had a part number that did not match the box. The correct sensor was plug and play and my heads up display had proper light dimming function. With wrong part it was backwards, bright sun made it dimmer and darkness made it brighter LOL.

Do you mods. Go to dealer.. " my camera is not working, can you scan the car and look for error (warranty), and they can "recode it" Freebo.

I replaced mine a couple months ago with this one. Good seller with fast shipping. Plug & play and works flawlessly.

Oh! Actually I see in your moniker you drive a pre lci. Maybe that camera only works on the lci? Mine is a 2021. Otherwise, confirm with the seller and maybe try a replacement. Sorry for your luck with it!

It is the same camera, you may have a valid point though in that the software handles the exchange a little different.
