Dragstrips do exclude the rollout when ET is calculated. Thus the reason that the inertial & gps timing gear, which can detect movement immediately, allow for the capability to mimic dragstrip results.

Racelogic's explanation of rollout.

The dragstrip timing equipment is unable to detect the 1st foot of movement due to design limitations. ET starts when the front tire clears the start line. The visual indicator of this is the 2nd staging light. If you were to draw a line where the front of the car is when the light goes on and off they would be approximately 1 foot apart.
This reflects my experience.

Well done, my 2020 M5 Comp did 10.8@128 so the CS is for sure quicker and faster.

Out of curiosity … what's the CS comment related to here? Did someone post quarter mile runs from it somewhere?

Read it closely. That means the car moves 12" before it crosses the starting line beam. Thus rollout. The car gets a 12" running start before the timer starts. All tracks use it unless you go back to the 60's with a few tracks using instant green and no tree or actual clocks. Even the 1/8th mile back woods tracks I raced at in 1978 used staggered beam starting. A lot of tracks would play with the placing of the beams to compete with other tracks for car count. Put a 24" rollout up and watch the ET's drop hard.....and racers will come...also watched them set the end beams at less lengths to get quicker ET's....but that hurt mph.....always add the rollout distance...lowers ET and adds mph.

Correct...Euro car manufacturer 0-100km/hr are from stationary.
The 1ft roll out has to be worth a couple of tenths.

Surely if there is a 1ft rollout it's not actually a 0 - 100km....it's a 3 - 100km/h or something similar

Even if you don't subtract rollout it's still not 0-100. Racelogic doesn't start the timer until you hit .8 kph. Rollout is generally assumed to be about 3/10ths of a second.

Those numbers are VERY consistent with my 2020 M5 Competition. Best run attached (1 ft rollout on). Very consistently 10.8-10.9, never above 11.0 over dozens of runs, and very rarely under 10.8. On cold nights, power increases but you start having traction issues.

[QUOTE=Boiler Up!;27635240]

According to car and driver, avg time difference for one foot rollout is 0.1 sec. Modern cars, particularly AWD ones, cover the one foot distance a lot faster than older rear wheel drive models (on the street with normal tires). The previous assumption of 0.3 is no longer accurate.

Most will say it's because of the valuable empirical data you've provided. But Simon, you and I know it's because of the Marina Bay Blue…

Car & Driver chassis dyno'd a 2019 F90 and it was putting down 617bhp… TO THE WHEELS. These cars, all of them, are much more powerful and much faster than "advertised."

Especially if they are Marina Bay Blue.

(With an additional slight advantage if its Frozen MBB. )
