Nice work! My old stomping grounds In Missoula. Any battle wounds on the car from the voyage?

Love these types of posts. What a wonderful trip. There is so much to see in this country, and seeing it by car is arguable the absolute best way to do it.

Cool trip and great pics! Moreover, fantastic car! I was just out in the Bend/Redmond/Prineville area last week and took my M340i on scenic road detours through the Warm Springs reservation, Pelton Dam Road, and up the Newberry Caldera. If you haven't tried those, I recommend. Some of the best roads I've ever driven.

......and then back again? What routes are you taking? Once you get to the Dakotas (about halfway) the landscape gets way more interesting. Mt. Rushmore, Devils Tower, Yellowstone, Montana............

Have fun.

Great write up. I grew up in Redmond, and have driven many -- but not all -- of those roads. Spectacular pictures, and interesting details. Thanks for sharing.

Incredible trip diary and incredible scenery, not only the car by the way! I feel the urge to steal some of your pictures to print them onto full scale poster format and stick them on my bedroom wall. Thanks to share this adventure with us!

Great overview and pictures and even better trip. Hard to beat the Pacific Northwest for a road trip this time of year. Extremely well done!

Nothing of any note. I had a couple tiny, tiny chips on the hood before I left. I haven't been over it with a fine tooth comb yet, but nothing stands out. Mostly bugs and dust - dust on the inside.

Seats are a subjective thing. My all time favorites were in my 2018 M550. Just plain old sport seats. 500 mile days were no problem. My 2019 base M5 had cooling and massage seats. I personally believe the trade off of losing cushion for air holes and massaging bits is not worth it. I hated them. I knew they would be a problem after 500 miles my first day.

That being said, many on the forum said they love them. Maybe age has just given me a boney ass. I had a 1 inch cushion insert made that helped a lot. But when my dealer enticed me to come in 18 months months early to swap out my lease, I took a look. I drove my current LCI Comp and the seats were better. There were many other improvements over my base model, but the seats were the deciding factor, since this car is for multi-thousand mile drives. They are still cooling and massaging, but way better. I took my cushion on this trip, but never used it - and we had several 9 hour days. I would really like to sit in a non-cooling and non-massaging M5 seat. Anyone?

Both M5s were lot cars. All my previous beemers have been ordered, and I will never buy a lot car again. It's too expensive at this level to not get it exactly how you want it. (Unless you find your exact spec somewhere - good luck with that)

Hope this helps. I would not shy away from a long trip in an M5. Besides, it's just too damn much fun.

Yup. All great roads. Have you tried Century Drive (Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway)? Head out of Bend toward Mt. Bachelor and then loop down past Elk Lake, Cultus Lake, Crane Prairie Reservoir & Devils Lake. Very Nice.

Thanks. Have not looked into BMW CCA/Oregon, but I've seen your threads, such as the trip up the Columbia to Stonehenge. Looks like fun.
