Fuel economy vs settings?

Have around 3000 mi on my ‘21. I’m averaging 18-19 mpg w a fairly heavy foot. Majority are highway miles. Usually in efficient mode. But I love the burbles and pops so sometimes I’ll put engine into sport plus. Shift logic depends on what mood I’m in but definitely uses more fuel when set into 2 or 3. Still playing around with auto shut off—unsure if this is saving me any fuel.

Anyone notice a significant savings with auto shut off?

Any big difference in efficient vs sport plus?

Any other big influences on fuel economy?

(Sorry if this has been posted before but couldn’t find a specific thread on this)

I get 12.5 mpg long term average but my area has a lot of elevation change so I'm probably getting that kind of fuel economy thanks to me flooring it up inclined roads all the time. I'm also not convinced auto start stop actually does anything significant (some youtube videos out there that show it's just a few percentage points difference at best). What I can tell is that the BMW S63 V8 is surprisingly efficient when you want it to be given how much power it has. My V8 range rover drinks a shit ton more fuel than the M5, that's for sure.

Forgot to mention overall since taking the car I’ve averaged about 16-17mpg based on the computer. I think as the engine is breaking in, the mileage has improved.

I don’t believe the auto start/stop helps much—I think it’s more for emissions.

Recently did a road trip w both the M5 and DBX—the merc engine in the DBX only managed about 14-15 mpg while the M5 did 18-19. You’re right, our S63 is surprisingly efficient!

The stop start savings depends on the kind of traffic you encounter regularly. If it's where you are totally stationary for long periods then it will save quite a bit, but if it's crawling type traffic then unlikely save much.
I was getting 32mpg in UK last year on my weekly 170 mile one way trip to the office and same back, but this was mainly out of peak hours and mainly with the active cruise on. I know it's a bit of a waste of an M5 but that's the reality in traffic dense speed restricted road calmed UK. Occasionally get to boot it for a few secs...that few secs is awesomeness.
Pretty pleased with real world economy for a 600+hp 2 tonne car

I'm on 18 miles per UK gallon...don't know what that is in USA mpg.
Thats mixed driving but mostly as fast as I can depending on the conditions and traffic.
