Whoa from the pic above it looks like the as yet unreleased G80/82 M3's also have this issue.
This really does seem like a software problem plaguing all the current M cars (save the M2). |

Well it doesn't affect cars built after 11/4 so if it was a software issue they would have a fix already? Feels more like a parts issue

My guess is whatever the fix ends up being is cheaper to do at the ports and dealers, than a production line interruption. Now if the fix isn't available for weeks or months, that's a different story. We are now a week since the issue was published, and likely much longer since it was discovered/analyzed/discussed internally at BMW. Getting frustrated at the lack of any updates. While not a major issue, but still PITA, I have had to cancel tint and tire swap (to all seasons) appointments, car insurance changeover, and I am quickly approaching the need to extend the lease. Plus another purchase of extra lease mileage, since I am going to go over my allocation again. and.... what really worries me is my front brakes. 10,000 miles ago the dealer said they were almost gone. Have a bad feeling if the hold keeps going, I am going to see that service light come on.

Agreed. I also think BMW is simply “quarantining” (to use your word) the produced cars until the fix is finalized and then applied at VPC’s or dealers.

Word is it's a software issue and there's a program coming out on the 18th to fix it. Fix will take about 1hr. Not sure if it can be done OTA for current owners affected or if they will have to take their cars in

Yes, great news indeed if it's legit and only a software fix that's releasing by next week.

I've worked with this CA for a while tho. He is an honest guy. If he didn't know he would just tell me he doesn't have an update yet. So I believe him when he says 11/18 is the date a fix program is coming out for this issue. We'll see. |

This is true. Such bad communication from this brand and dealership on this issue. Guess we have wait to hear it straight from BMW NA, Genius or a known insider before trying to make any sense of this. It's hard to know which recent updates are credible and which are not.

Someone in the thread mentioned getting a Porsche instead. Don't try a 911. The 2021s have been stuck at ports for ages. Some since late August. Something about EPA/CARB certification not have been obtained for it yet. Dealers and people who ordered 911s are livid.
