But this is the great oil debate and there is no right or wrong answer and honestly it's just subjective and whatever people want to do, at the end of the day oil is oil and as long as you're not doing something ridiculous like 20-60 or 0-16 I'd say you're gonna be fine 🤣🤣🤣 |

so use 0W-40, simple.
I'm switching over to that next week. IMO 30 is too thin in our 40 degree celsius summers Edit: so for me I run 0W-30 winter 0W-40 summer. 4 years now. 2nd edit. Did the same on my previous BMW - that I had for 12 years before selling, no issues, car ran like a champ. Last edited by Danny D; 06-15-2022 at 03:05 PM.. |

Using BMW 0W-30 what the M5 came with from the factory. I paid $10.26 a bottle and $20.93 for the oil filter. Just completed the oil change today. Piece of cake.

I like the fire extinguisher in the background for safety. Did you spill any oil when you changed the filter?

No, I loosened the oil filter housing and let the oil run over the housing into the oil pan below before separating the oil filter housing from the engine.

My X5M came with the oil filter cap that doesn't have the drain plug. They are both the same price. |

Not sure of PN but someone posted it recently. I think it is a part that may or may not have a suffix or may use the original part number. I have an aftermarket version that was available before the new factory part. I thought the stock cap even with slow draining was still too messy and that a drain made sense.
