How to nicely tell the dealer NOT to wash my car during service?
Yeah I dont trust them and the way they wash cars at the dealer. They will probably give me a ton of swirl marks. So far I've been detailing/washing my own car weekly and its been swirl and defect free.
I'm going in for the 1200 mile service but I 100% do not want them to wash my car. Just do their thing and leave my car alone. Whats the nicest possible way to get this point across? I'm queuing this up. "Please do NOT wash my car". |

You're the customer just tell your SA to not run it through the wash. Or tell them you'll kidnap them and dump them in Mexico if they do.

This is a common request. They should be used to it. Make sure they write "DO NOT WASH"
Multiple times all over your service order.

On top of telling the SA to not wash the car, I print out a couple pages with big bold "DO NO WASH" and tape them on the wheel and on the dash.
My dealer also has their own laminated DO NOT WASH sign that they'll put in your car when you request no wash but I always bring mine just in case they don't have any available. |

I always put a letter sized note on the dashboard saying please don't wash.
Had too many times when the note on paperwork isn't read by the wash boy... They can't comprehend why anyone would turn down a free wash. |

Phew!! I'm glad to hear that this is a common request. If it was my ct200 I would welcome the wash because I literally do not care, but if these guys add swirls i'm going to die inside...or ask them to correct it.
Thanks gents. I'm going to print out a bunch of DO NOT WASH papers at work and bring them in! |

I'm not sure why this is a big deal? Every time I go there, I ask:
"Hey, do you all wash the car when you're done? If so, please don't." I assume they hear this often enough from other people that it's never been a big deal. My old service advisor would write "NO WASH" two or three times on every piece of paper that goes in the car. |

AMAZING! I love it! Printed a few out.
I told my dealer not to wash the car when I pick it up at delivery. Goes straight to a detailer and PPF. At pick up it will be a little dirty but not too bad that you cant inspect it.

Every new car I have purchased I have asked for a few things. 1. Perform no dealer prep to the exterior of the car 2. No front license plate bracket drilled in/installed 3. No test drives or non essential personnel inside the car. They have all been more than happy to comply with those requests. I highly recommend going this route. Pulling off the large paint protection white vinyl is surprisingly therapeutic and satisfying. I have had great success avoiding initial paint swirls and scratches by asking for these things. Turns out that the manufacturers actually do a decent job painting their vehicles. They just get screwed up by people using improper cleaning and handling techniques prior to delivery

My dealer has large laminated A4 'Do not wash' signs they drop on the dash and mark up the job sheets accordingly. I think it's something a lot of dealers are becoming more used to now.
I still always take the complimentary interior vac though! |
