E85 mixing

Mixing E85 with 92 on untuned car? So my thought was to get 92 non ethanol 15 gallons and mix it with 5 gallons of E85 to get something like e20? Would the stock ecu be able to handle this?

According to the user manual for the car you can run up to e25.

I use this chart from https://www.enginelabs.com/engine-tech/mixing-e85-with-pump-gas-getting-higher-octane-for-less-money, but the calcs are with E10 91. You can make something similar for your scenario

*first two are mixed up

Does stock run better on 93 w/ethanol or non ethanol 93? Or
Does it make a difference.

most gas sold has 10% ethanol... I don't have 93 on pump, so I mix around E27 from the table above and I have substantial gains in power. 100-200km/h is more than a second faster, which I didn't expect at all. C&D did a comparison of 91 vs 93, some good gains, but nowhere near what I'm getting with the mix - https://www.caranddriver.com/feature...dodge-charger/.

I've been driving with E27ish for a year now, supposedly there's an additional cooling effect from the ethanol. There's some hit on mileage, but minimal, less than 10%.

You tuned for it or is the computer just picking it up on its own?

Quick question partially related... Not familiar with the e85. But in AZ can only get 91. Unless I go to a gas station near me that sells race gas. They sell 95, and 100 octane.

I have racechip black, otherwise stock 19 Comp.

What would be best method for best performance?Race gas? E85 mix? I don't want to over do it with no gains, or mess anything up.

the 95, and 100 octane aren't cheap either (8.00/gallon, and 10.00/gallon), so if I could find a cheaper easier solution that would be good.

Thanks for the chart and info!

Start with E20. empty the fuel tank, and put 1.5 gallons of E85 and 10 gallons of 91/93

that's going to get you close to E20. you can run map 3, datalog and make sure its running well.

There are some apps out that can help you calculate the desired blend which make it easy. The manual for the '21 comp says you can use E25. I only have 91 octane where I live so I will periodically blend in E85 and I can feel the difference. I use an app called "E85 Blend" which helps calculate ratios based on the fuel you have left in the tank. I also use the myBMW app to get the percentage left on the tank which helps with the calculation. Below is a screenshot of the app I use.

E85 may be anywhere from E50 to E85, so if using it for more than safety, test the E85 content at the gas station you use.

If you are stock or running a map for 91/93 octane and staying at or below E25 you should be good even if it's E50 from an E85 pump you blend with? Assuming I didn't test it and just treated it like it was E85, you just wouldn't see as much of a performance increase and may end up with something like ~E15-E20, but no increased risk?

I'm other words, if you are trying to run a tune or piggy map that needs higher octane and you are blending E85 to get you there that's when testing would be more critical?

You are using it for safety and not depending on it for use with a certain tune, so you should be fine. If you were trying to blend to E30 to use with an E30 octane tune (a common tune) then you should be more careful.

But I have not yet seen an explanation whether an E30 tune means 91 plus enough E85 to get to E30 or 93 plus enough E85 to get to E30 or 91 or 93 that already has 10% ethanol plus enough more E85 to get to E30. Would be better just to specify the required octane for the tune.

I am not an E85 expert—there is none within 75 miles of me. I could buy 55 gallon drums but I drive too much to make that practical. I use water/methanol injection. It flows only when called upon by the controller (JB4) so buying 5 gallon pails and mixing to 70% meth and 30% distilled water is not that expensive. I might use 20 gallons of meth in 10,000 miles of driving (no track), though the kids who drive mostly at 50% throttle or greater will use more. Been using meth injection for over 20 years.

In most cases, it's good enough for 91 mixes with E85 for an E30 blend. If you are running more aggressive maps, it's mandatory to datalog and ensure the car handles the added boost without any problems.

I strongly recommend the fuel it kit to anyone running E85 maps; this way, you do not worry about the difference in ethanol mix from one gas station to the other or from winter to summer.

Hi Mike,

Which kits do you offer for the S63 platform? From searching your site, I saw a lot for B/S58 and other engines, but couldn't find one for our cars. Thanks.

I don't offer one as Fuel-it does not have a kit for this engine. But I was under the impression that there are Ethanol content readerss for this car. I'll do a quick search and report back
